Chris Matthew's Hardball
Yep...
Looks like he just announced his resignation on air, and got up and left...

Re: Chris Matthew's Hardball
Finally, I jump to a conclusion that someone/something died and I can feel happy without guilt. That guy has been unwatchable for 20 years, how has he stayed on the air? I wouldn't be surprised to find out i a few years that he has dementia. He has been saying some nutty stuff, even nuttier than normal for him.

Was he promised Veep too?
Him abruptly ending everything like this was like the time when Hitler, sounded by his generals and girlfriend, decided to kill himself in his underground bunker. He just realized he'd lost and it was over.

Just quit and left 54 minutes of air to fill. The re-join to Kornecki is gonna be a meme.
Re: Chris Matthew's Hardball
He's always been super inappropriate. His apology was good at least.

Re: Chris Matthew's Hardball
I've interacted with him around a dozen times over the years, going back to the 90s.
He's a "nice guy" off air, and his schtik is absolutely how he talks to people in "real" life.* We hosted a roundtable of journalists from time to time and he always livened things up. Unlike Howard Fineman, who is absolutely of the same era, Matthews was someone that didn't take himself too seriously.
That said, I was talking to my wife about this last night: Dude was 74. You can keep up that energy and blowhard-take for only so long. Even if it's not dementia, his routine relies on being on top of your game and it was becoming obvious 5 years ago that he wasn't keeping it together.

Re: Chris Matthew's Hardball
Wasn't he one of the folks who would talk about how hard it was to listen to the voices of women politicians like Clinton?
Because one thing I found over the past couple of years - I just can't stand the sound of Matthews' voice or his whole "wise detached political guy" persona.

And his one problem is he didn’t go to Russia that night because he had extracurricular activities, and they froze to death.

Biden/Sanders (78 or 79 years old as of election day) versus Trump (74).Nonlinear FC wrote: ↑Tue Mar 03, 2020 9:38 am That said, I was talking to my wife about this last night: Dude was 74. Did he scream in real life conversations, too?Nonlinear FC wrote: ↑Tue Mar 03, 2020 9:38 am I've interacted with him around a dozen times over the years, going back to the 90s.

I haven't watched his show in years, but I used to back during the Clinton impeachment, and the post-911 years.
I remember he used to show up on the McLaughlin Group, many many years ago.

CRAZY loud, always. The first time I called and got him, I did the old timey sitcom thing of pulling the phone comically far from ear.The Sybian wrote: ↑Tue Mar 03, 2020 12:17 pmDid he scream in real life conversations, too?Nonlinear FC wrote: ↑Tue Mar 03, 2020 9:38 am I've interacted with him around a dozen times over the years, going back to the 90s.

Less so in person, but he was always "on."

Re: Chris Matthew's Hardball
I guess this could go in the End of Journalism thread but I’ll put it here, as there are apparently some other vacancies MSNBC needs to fill.

I thought he understood and she doubles down at the end. Surely he corrected her after the clip was cut off?
And don't journalists become journalists so they don't have to do math? Or is that just lawyers?

Re: Chris Matthew's Hardball
What’s crazy is they had a planned graphic set up for that Tweet so at least 3-4 people must’ve seen it before it went on air without noticing anything wrong.

To be fair, him handing a $1.50 check to everyone would still have been a better use of the money.
