The OFFICIAL 2020 Self-Quarantine Thread

Post by Rex »

I thought I would create a separate thread as a place for people to get away from the more depressing aspects of COVID-19 and discuss how they are passing the time. The books, the video games, the new hobbies, the recipes, anything, preferably something constructive but that's not a hard rule.

Wiffle ball hr derby. Burnt cookies. Ticket to Ride on the agenda for tonight. We're gonna run out of sweet sweet processed goodness so recipes (with basic ingredients) are welcomed over here.

Flour cookbook (Joanne Chang) is my #1 for baking and baking is the easiest thing to future stock ingredients for. Very recommended.

(Original one, not Flour Too or the low sugar one.)

This is gonna be a good test of what retirement would be like relationship-wise, so looking at that as a positive as well.

I don't think I'm terrified, exactly, but otherwise, yeah. As a partner, I'll be doing whatever work I can to help keep the funds coming in to pay the secretaries we're sending home. As much as I'd love an excuse to spend the week hiking or going to the desert, I think I just have to work anyway.

I'm always at home.

Wife will be for the foreseeable future, daughter's classes are now remote.

My health club's still open, and the golf course (for long, long dog walks). Otherwise, work, TV read and beer.

Both the wife and I already worked at home and I’ve been slow so my travel has been limited so nothing really will change for us. My gym and local breweries are still open. Was supposed to go to Phoenix for spring training next week is the only real change.

Only thing I’m really annoyed with is the canceling of championship week and no NCAA’s...I always look forward to/enjoy this time of year.
I would like expensive whiskey.
We only have beer & wine...

Disappointed both the conferences I go to got cancelled, so no boozing on the university dime, and no binging on sports the day I fly in (cord-cutting without ESPN isn't that bad but sometimes I get a jones.)

It's going to get boooooooring working from home as a lot of my work is hands-on stuff and with no one in the library, there ain't shit to do. My boss has said we're going to have a weekly staff meeting at a brewery so that's good.

Drinking a Knotted Root right now, they make fantastic, fantastic beer.
Did you see that ludicrous display last night?

Someone should monetize this is an opportunity to have a fictional March madness bracket.

Take 64 basketball teams from movies and dramas and let America vote. Even has some international berths.

Started Breeders tonight on Hulu. Really good, reminds me of Catastrophe in tone and humor. Plan to start Devs next (was a big fan of ex machina and Annihilation - same director). Never started Justified, that’s seems a good one to pick up.

If you guys want to do a bracket here on the Swamp based on votes amongst Swampers let me know and I’ll set it up. We just have to agree on entries and seedlings.

I was planning to go to the tourney games in St. Louis next Saturday (and maybe Thursday too, depending on how busy work is). So yeah, it's a bummer. But at least I did the NYTimes Saturday crossword this morning and finally finished a book I had been taking way too long to get through.

My daughter's academy coach did an Instagram Live training session today and invited parents, sibling and friends to join in. Thought that might be a fun thing to do with my daughter. It was, but 4 hours later, my legs are already feeling it. Going to be in a world of hurt tomorrow. Lots of balance and footwork drills. Started with dynamic stretching and leg muscle strengthening. I loved how she focused on building leg stabilizing muscles to reduce chances of ACL tears. Lots of jumping on one foot through cones, hopping on one foot while doing ball control drills. My daughter insisted on following it up with a one v one scrimmage. We are getting dangerously close to the point that she could beat me even if I'm fully trying.

My parents finally remembered to bring Axis and Allies the last time they visited. Going to teach my son how to play. Not sure if that will hold his attention. We tried Fortress America, the next game in that series, and it wasn't nearly as fun or interesting as I remembered.

Here’s an idea. I think we’re gonna need to start doing shit like this eventually to keep from going insane.

We should do Virtual Swanp Movie nights where we agree to all watch the same movie at around the same time and post about it

Lucky bastard. I was up in Richmond, IN - first year at Earlham. I have extensive notes on the game now upon re-watch. Boomer played like shit in hindsight - defense, running game (mostly ickey), and a timely fake punt carried the day. Really questionable decisions and throws from Boomer all over the place.

This post sent me down a Pro-Football Reference rabbit hole and it’s amazing how close the Bengals came to winning that title because Boomer was basically trash all postseason.
