That would involve refunds (or no interest loans from ticketholders) that they don't want to pay yet.
Yeah MLS is totally slow-rolling as well. Glad I leased off my entire ticket package in the pre-season.

Concerts either. Possibly throughout the rest of the year at least.
A little over two weeks ago, it was batted around that the largest concert equipment supplier in the world (lights, LED screens, projection gear, etc.) was going to file for bankruptcy because all of their business just stopped.

It’s already a bad look that the players and celebrities seem to have access the public doesn’t Nd this would make that infinitely worse.
It kind of seems like they've been testing all the players and personnel anyways. Plus, according to the President, tests will be plentiful by ... (checks watch) ... two weeks ago, so that won't be a problem! If you tested everyone once, and truly segregated everyone, that should be fine, but you'd have hotel staff coming in, so unless you isolated all staff too, it's just not possible. Not to mention, one false negative test, and the whole system crashes down. I read an article that some experts believe false negatives could be as high as 10-20% on the testing kits.

Another issue the Men in Blazers keep mentioning, elite athletes would require a day of training for every day off to get back into game shape. Any less time, and you are looking at a high number of injuries. That cuts the window in half as to when we can get get the seasons restarted.

Of course I also bought a National Parks pass for the first time this year and that's not exactly getting me anywhere.

MLB just announced the cancelling of the Series in London June 13-14 between Cards and Cubs.

With Toronto on lockdown to June 30th and NYC blowing up, and possibly Philly being next and cases increasing in Florida, not sure how they are going to play Hockey, Basketball, or Baseball this season. I am getting worried Football may be effected.

This is where I'm at. Resuming sports doesn't send a great message to the public when you're trying to convince everyone to distance and quarantine. Also, why would any sporting body assume the liability?

I'm more pessimistic. Thinking that people will be stupid after it levels off and falls, they'll go back outside, and a couple weeks later it'll spike again. Just continual crests and falls through the rest of the year. Maybe the first sports back might be the NBA on Christmas Day.

You can't get more pessimistic than fall 2021 at this point I don't think. Though it's scary to think the next NHL game played might feature the Seattle Sockeyes.

I misread Giff's post as saying "Fall of 2020". If it's not until Fall of 2021, I can totally see my lifelong passion of sports waning. Like I can totally see dropping a sports completely off my radar. Maybe the NFL. I've seen my team win it. I get uncomfortable feelings when I see a guy get KO'd (even if I don't flinch watching boxers get the same), and recent actions by ownership in general has left a bad taste in my mouth. Sort of like I stopped having a blind eye to the shittiness they treat the players.

I think this could work, especially if by then the testing capacity is sufficient to regularly test the players. Football is a such a huge TV sport.

Yes. Premier League in August would also be a good indicator of where we are by then.

This is what I am thinking, especially if they are right about a second outbreak next winter. Plus are they going to want 50-60 football players being all cozy on the sideline together?

With any luck they'd be able to test by then. The NFL can certainly afford it.

I didn't read all the way back to where this side convo started, but I still don't get the testing thing.

So you test every single (insert sport) player, they all come back negative, and then 3 days later 20 of them go to a charity event and get exposed. What good does any of this do until there's a vaccine? I'm talking mostly about large-scale operations where one positive test shuts the whole thing down again due to panic/travel/size of population involved. Same for Disney World. How can they open again knowing that every single person in the park has to be clean/immune to avoid just the one new positive case that will make the news, touch off a hundred new cases that all fly home the next week...

I've been thinking that way for weeks about my dinky little 15-person office where MAYBE someone can get sick on the downslope of the curve and business can MAYBE stay open. The huge corporate and social entities? I don't know what they can do.

I just figure you test everyone connected with the teams so they can practice and play. But yeah, they'd need to stay away from other "events". And I'm assuming there will be less community spread once they can test more and isolate positives.

You also have to ensure that every single item that enters whatever facility is clean. Every piece of food. Every roll of athletic tape. Every player that gets signed to a midseason contract (and has to pass a test or be quarantined) after a player gets hurt. And so on.

Brian's plan had an entire league quarantined in the MGM Grand, and they don't have contact with anyone outset of the league or hotel staff. Everyone tested first. I don't trust eliminating false positive tests or limiting hotel workers exposure to people outside the league, but it's a fun exercise to work through.

Thing with hotel staff is you can very much limit the exposure. Minimal cleaning of rooms, and when it's done it's a massive disinfection operation. Food delivered outside of the door, no human contact there. I mean, a lot of us are still ordering carry-out/delivery... same protocol.

Looking forward to seeing which major sports league commissioner gets duped/bullied into returning early by Trump and how that massively explodes in their face when it creates another wave of the outbreak.

The only issue I’d take with that prediction is that if things do take a good turn this spring, there will be pressure on MLB before the other leagues.

Unless DSG is being a real dick and assuming it’s a given that Trump will still be bullying us next year, too.

Manchester City conduct investigation over Kyle Walker's alleged party with sex workers during coronavirus lockdown
The England defender is facing disciplinary procedures after a report in The Sun newspaper claimed he and a friend paid for two sex workers to visit his Cheshire home just hours after issuing a plea to his social media followers to follow UK government advice and "keep following the protocols" during the pandemic.
