"brown rice and vegetables" was remarkably accurate advice, especially for the 90s. It's literally one of the only things in this movie that's made sense so far.

Are we past the pause point? DSafe said 1:04, but I haven't seen that scene yet, unless I missed it.

Wow, that was a lot to take in frankly. I'll give his movie credit for one thing. I have literally no fuckin' idea what's gonna happen in the second half of this movie and that's a weird complement.

So what the fuck is the plot of this movie? I know it's a trope to say a movie "has no plot" when you really mean the plot is simplistic or confusing, but I honestly don't know what the plot is.

One other (small) complement. I have tickets to a seat-filling service so I've seen about a dozen of these types of shows and the on-stage stuff they've pretty much nailed though they're all kind of the same ultimately.

That was kind of my point where I said I have no idea where it's going. Literally none. In my head any one of a dozen different things could happen. Does she decide to go back to Cheetah's and dance for the love of the pole? Get hooked on drugs? I don't know!Johnny Carwash wrote: ↑Thu Apr 16, 2020 9:16 pm So what the fuck is the plot of this movie? Also I legit feel sorry for Berkley. It really seems like she took this role absolutely convinced it would make her career skyrocket.

The movie seems to want us to think the black guy is the romantic partner she's supposed to be with, which is FUCKED UP.

Re: Swamp Quarantine Movie Night - Showgirls (1995), Thursday, April 16 9 PM ET
It seems like it's just the goal of Berkeley to become a showgirl. Like, if there were a serious version of the movie, the set-up is she decides to go to Vegas, she spends 90 minutes struggling her way up, then it ends with her getting the role, dancing in the show, and walking off with her boyfriend who gives her flowers. This grease fire has it happening halfway through, so, chaos to ensue, I imagine.Johnny Carwash wrote: ↑Thu Apr 16, 2020 9:16 pm So what the fuck is the plot of this movie? I feel like she (and other teen actresses) feel like the best way to transition from teen actress to serious adult is to take a role with nudity, drugs, etc. (see "Spring Breakers" with a couple former Disney Channel actresses).Johnny Carwash wrote: ↑Thu Apr 16, 2020 9:18 pm Also I legit feel sorry for Berkley. Unreal that this runtime is 2 hours and 11 minutes. Just cruel.

I would be interested in reading the first draft of this script, just to see how it evolved through re-writes, producer/studio input, etc.

In theory, Esterhaus and Verhouven (sps?) should have had a lot of say given this is coming off of Basic Instinct. I'm guessing that might have been the problem (though I hate to give the studios credit for good taste).DSafetyGuy wrote: ↑Thu Apr 16, 2020 9:23 pm I would be interested in reading the first draft of this script, just to see how it evolved through re-writes, producer/studio input, etc.
