Simmons and Rusillo are redrafting NBA drafts and I listened to the 1996 one, which was really interesting. They picked Nash and Ray Allen (along with Kobe) over Iverson.

Rusillo and someone from Barstool are doing a ripoff of All Fantasy Everything, and Ian Karmel is (rightly pissed). Read the whole thread.

TLDR: The Ringer tried to buy the AFE podcast last summer, and they (AFE) turned it down. Now Ryen Rusillo and someone from Barstool are doing the same format.

Obviously love his crew and that podcast, but there are like 4000 other fantasy draft and random bracket websites and podcasts out there already. Some came before his. How long has Page 2, Grantland, and The Ringer been doing them? The Takeout does food drafts. 538 drafts presidential candidates.

Typical bad optics that he turned them down so they turned around and did it on their own, but they didn't steal the idea.

I think it's just Ryen Russillo who is close to Simmons and the PMT guys. Can't really blame him for trying to cash in for opportunities with both.

He's probably too busy in his new $16 million house after the sale to a podcast network.

Also, Simmons' nonsense is exactly how most racism works these days. It isn't KKK guys in hoods with nooses (though some of those guys obviously exist). It's people who went to elite schools, raised in privilege who own companies (like Simmons) who think nothing of having their idiot buddies from college on a podcast every week, but don't get it when questions are raised about why there's no black people on their platform and they reply that they're "not running a charity" or whatever idiocy he said.

That's fucking racism, 21st century style and the kind of shit right-thinking people are trying to defeat.

Boston has a bad history and still has problems, but in the context of what has happened in the rest of the country I think there is some "Hey, look at those racists..they suck" while ignoring what's happening where they live. Torii Hunter didn't want to play in Boston because he heard racist taunts. He felt much safer in Minneapolis and LA where there are no problems with cops doing anything to black people. When they did the Lakers/Celtics documentary, there was a lot about the Boston bussing riots, but nothing about LA riots caused by cops destroying black lives. There are so many documentaries, stories, video, everything about the entire country doing awful, awful racist things, so when I see a fanbase of another city say, "ha, look at racist Boston," my reaction is usually "Yes Boston has had problems, but [insert one of several racist events that occurred in that fan's city]"

Maybe I shouldn't have been defensive about a throwaway line about a writer who hasn't lived in Boston for 20 years, especially when the focus of the thread should be on how shitty Bill Simmons is.

Boston isn't more or less racist than other areas. Can't blame Simmons or Boston for institutionalized racism but it is fair to challenge them on it. It's more that there aren't many black people and those that are there aren't doing terribly well and are generally various afro carribeans and Africans. It just sucks to live in Boston as a black person. Mostly cause the women are ugly and the houses expensive.

That definitely strikes me more of an "animal shaming meme" than had he said use the quote to hang him by the neck or something like that.

“Do I get to speak now? It’s been like ten minutes.”
Bill Simmons is an only child.

There are many narratives about Simmons—that he’s a godsend, an innovator, a genius, a workaholic, your favorite writer … or that he’s a racist, a misogynist, a frat boy from Boston, a multimillionaire who navigated through a dying industry for his own profit.

Here’s one more narrative to consider. “He’s an only child,” Jarod Hector said to me on the phone Tuesday morning, by which time “Bill Simmons” was well and truly trending on Twitter. “That always seemed like a big part of it.”
