There's probably going to be at least four or five candidates vetted, so this means little ultimately (and it's possible the vetting finds something in addition to throwing stuff at her staff anyway).

Would Republicans care if Pence threw binders at his staff??? No??? Then why the fuck should we???????
Re: 2020: The Democratic Presidential Nomination Thread
Even ignoring that, I don't think you could design a more perfect inverse Hillary-Kaine ticket if you tried.

It seems to me that she'd be an even riskier choice than Warren, as far as the possible loss of a Senate seat.
I think this is just someone on Klobuchar's staff leaking something for attention.

The only way this becomes a bigger parody is if/when we find out Biden has considered Murkowski or some shit like that.

If this data is correct and remains true in November, that's the ballgame. Trump cannot win if he loses the 65+ cohort.

My sentiments exactly.
I have seen many recent elections (and one referendum) where the polls released just before voting were way off.

Re: 2020: The Democratic Presidential Nomination Thread
I don't really get what they're really asking. I think people extrapolating the depths of this based on unemployment rates are looking at the wrong thing. We purposefully put the economy into hibernation. So firstly, of course lots of people aren’t working...but the usefulness of that as indicator was out the window as soon as we pursued that path. And second, we’ve really never been down this road before. So relying on past recessions or comparing GDP to past periods is irrelevant; that’s fine for when times are relatively similar and when you have a meaningful baseline. We haven’t got that though. It’s not that this time is different, it’s that we have no idea if it should be the same.

I don’t listen to The Breakfast Club, but I’ve seen enough clips of Charlamagne’s interviews to say that whatever Biden staffer thought that interview was a good idea is a moron. Better to stick with CNN and MSNBC where he’ll get the kid gloves treatment.

Re: 2020: The Democratic Presidential Nomination Thread
While those results sound promising, I don't know if any poll on the presidential election matters unless it is of a large enough group of people where the results can be translated into electoral college results that would have meaning. I don't know what the baseline is for that, though, but it has to be well into five figures, probably weighted by state population and several other factors.

Re: 2020: The Democratic Presidential Nomination Thread
Yeah, I think state polling is way more important than national polls. Having lived in deep blue states for the majority of my life, I’m confident that Biden will absolutely destroy Trump in places like NY and California and almost certainly win the national popular vote. But the Electoral College is bullshit and the current population distribution is optimal for the GOP. Trump could absolutely lose by as much as 5% nationally and still squeak out an EC victory.DSafetyGuy wrote: ↑Fri May 22, 2020 9:16 amWhile those results sound promising, I don't know if any poll on the presidential election matters unless it is of a large enough group of people where the results can be translated into electoral college results that would have meaning. Re: 2020: The Democratic Presidential Nomination Thread
I don't think old folks are very psyched that Trump and his folks are basically saying, fuck it, you all can die so we can have cheeseburgers and a haircut.
I know a few old folks, and they are absolutely bat shit terrified right now. If this pandemic has a flare up in the fall, Trump is absolutely fucked.
Book that shit. While there are a certain small percentage that are watching Fox and saying they are OK with dying, the vast majority of oldsters are freaking the fuck out.
Economy has ZERO to do with that. These folks are on fixed income. It's life or death for them.
It's not that complicated .

Re: 2020: The Democratic Presidential Nomination Thread
In your example, wouldn't the Trump loving old folks still get out and vote and the rightfully terrified old folks who have turned on him stay home to be safe? Like I'm lucky my parents are in NY so it doesn't matter, but if they were in a swing state would I want them to go out if early November looks like early April did?

Exactly, which is why Trump is so against mail in voting.mister d wrote: ↑Fri May 22, 2020 9:37 am In your example, wouldn't the Trump loving old folks still get out and vote and the rightfully terrified old folks who have turned on him stay home to be safe? Re: 2020: The Democratic Presidential Nomination Thread
I dunno. Are the old folks terrified about the Republican "let them die" attitude, or mad about it?mister d wrote: ↑Fri May 22, 2020 9:37 am In your example, wouldn't the Trump loving old folks still get out and vote and the rightfully terrified old folks who have turned on him stay home to be safe? These old folks know their way around voting, and how to vote absentee. Voting by mail is allowed in just about every state already; the issue (unless I'm mistaken) is whether one needs an excuse to vote absentee. But old folks have an excuse anyway, so I don't think Trump can do much to stop them.
I do think it was pretty fucking stupid (and unnecessary) for Biden to volunteer no tax increases for folks making under $400K. I'm sure he will wiggle out of it when the time comes, but in my view it was a dumb thing to say right now.
And his one problem is he didn’t go to Russia that night because he had extracurricular activities, and they froze to death.
Re: 2020: The Democratic Presidential Nomination Thread
I agree with you that it's dumb policy, but it's also pretty consistent with where Biden has always been, and with how he's framed his campaign. Biden was always supposed to be the electable Dem that's palatable to rich people. The whole reason why Bloomberg entered the race was because he got concerned about the "electable" part of that.Steve of phpBB wrote: ↑Fri May 22, 2020 10:31 am I do think it was pretty fucking stupid (and unnecessary) for Biden to volunteer no tax increases for folks making under $400K. Is the logical inverse that if a lawyer stays on that means they believe their client, Brian?
Re: 2020: The Democratic Presidential Nomination Thread
Yeah, Brian. A similarly good reason he dropped her as a client would simply be a business decision, like she's a bad pay, or it doesn't make economic sense. And I'm in the camp that Biden probably did at least something questionable with her.

Re: 2020: The Democratic Presidential Nomination Thread
He shouldn't have any trouble getting paid. There have to be literally thousands of shady right-wing groups ready to shell out whatever it takes to keep trotting her out in front of the media. Hell, Susan Sarandon would probably offer to pay her bills.
And I agree he sexual harassed her. He may have even touched her in a way that made her feel uncomfortable (i.e. rubbing shoulders, etc). But I don't think there's any way he stuck his fingers inside her vagina.

At the risk of realpolitik, I really don't even care if Biden digitally raped her. It's not like those motherfuckers on the right give even a trifle of a fuck about Trump's rapes.

Re: 2020: The Democratic Presidential Nomination Thread
It's quite the dilemma to be facing since Democrats painted themselves into a corner!
Since we need to #BelieveAllWomen and determine all alleged perpetrators are guilty before an investigation, what is worse?
What she said happened to her or Trump being president?
Let's see what noted Democrat Bill Maher recently said:
Well then!

As far as I know, the only people who promote "Believe *All* Women" are people in opposition to feminists/ Me Too.
"Believe Women" is what those folks say, and it doesn't mean "believe all women all the time no matter what the evidence may be".

Re: 2020: The Democratic Presidential Nomination Thread
Yes, lawyers do drop clients for business reasons, but I don't think business reasons are likely to be the reason here. I doubt it's based on her ability to pay him, because I'd assume she never agreed to pay him in the first place.
And I think he basically has to say he still believes her, because of how devastating it would be for his client, to whom he owes fiduciary duties, if he said anything else.
Perhaps there's another shoe about to drop, but until something does, her own lawyer dropping her is a fairly reliable sign that there are problems with her claim.

Isn't it a novelty to potentially have a president who can apologize though?
