Why do I have a really bad feeling about what's going to happen tonight?
Hold on, I'm trying to see if Jack London ever gets this fire built or not.

Hopefully the arrest calms things in Minneapolis at least.

Well there are a lot of people out already in Minneapolis. And businesses are boarding up. And there was a new video showing the other two officers kneeling on him as well, so just one might not be enough.
Hold on, I'm trying to see if Jack London ever gets this fire built or not.

Well, no. The level of understanding you get from reading history is much better than no understanding at all.
Maybe this is a better analogy. Here's a tweet from a twitter friend of mine.
We white folks can read all we want about racism and civil rights. In fact, it's important that we do. But that's never going to give us the same perspective and understanding as he does.

So 3rd degree murder. There are rumors that they knew each other? Could that bump up the possibility of pre-meditation more?

Re: The Important Sounds of Things Falling Apart
The issue between 3d degree and 2d degree is intent to actually kill, not premeditation. But if compelling evidence surfaced of the cop's pre-existing animosity toward Floyd, that could help support bumping the charge up to 2d degree.degenerasian wrote: ↑Fri May 29, 2020 3:06 pmSo 3rd degree murder. Is it bad that my first thought is "I hope COVID deaths don't spike because of the lack of social distancing"?

That's the human thing to think. I was ready to go down to the protest on the Strip today but decided against it because of concern about contracting COVID. It sucks to have to make that calculation but that's where we are.

Any chance that divorce is a move to preserve assets?

Maybe. At the very least she's trying to disassociate herself and her family from him and not have her house burn down. People have been looking her up, her brother, her parents. The MN gov and AG pretty clear that last night's violence in their area from those outside the state. Hearing similar comments from Detroit and Oakland. Whites causing the damage - not too far a stretch to make the connection to attempts by the white supremacists to spark something worse.

So now the conversation is being directed away from race and police brutality and repression towards Fox News' favourite bugbears.

They're called 'Boogaloo Bois'...and yes, its a thing.tennbengal wrote: ↑Sat May 30, 2020 10:22 am The MN gov and AG pretty clear that last night's violence in their area from those outside the state. Far-Right Extremists Are Hoping to Turn the George Floyd Protests Into a New Civil War
The “boogaloo” is code for impending civil war or violent confrontation with law enforcement, and that’s what they’re hoping to get out of the protests. Their main reason for being there is their antipathy toward law enforcement, and so they’re trying to position themselves as allies of Black Lives Matter protesters. They’ve made police brutality one of their central issues, which was explored at length in a Bellingcat article this week.

Of course it’s not just MSP but it’s relevant for the fact it seems to be undercover cops contributing to the chaos there.
