A Dunkins was set on fire during some riots in Brockton, Mass -- don't worry, there's 16 more Dunkins in Brockton.
Re: The Important Sounds of Things Falling Apart
It's a rare day when a Dunkin doesn't burn down in New England probably.

I’m thinking the past couple of days. I haven’t seen any reports of it, but my feed isn’t exactly representative.Joe K wrote: ↑Fri Jun 05, 2020 3:54 pmNot sure what you mean by lately, but we had a very bad night in St. Louis on Monday night. A 7-11 was torched, a historic building suffered fire damage, dozens of businesses were damaged or burglarized, a retired police captain working private security for a friend’s pawn shop was killed in a looting robbery, and four active duty police officers were shot (their wounds were not life threatening). There have been curfews in place the last three nights and no major issues since then.Steve of phpBB wrote: ↑Fri Jun 05, 2020 3:45 pm I’m curious about something ... has there been any appreciable looting or property destruction by protesters/rioters lately?
And his one problem is he didn’t go to Russia that night because he had extracurricular activities, and they froze to death.
Re: The Important Sounds of Things Falling Apart
Either the media quit covering it (if you're a conspiracy theorist) which seems really, really, really fucking unlikely, but no. Honestly haven't seen much damage or looting since Monday just about anywhere.

I'm sure Fox News is covering it interspersed with interviews with white cops feeling bad about themselves and interviews with other various white people that feel unsafe because their white privilege is under attack.

Actually, it's called "Atlantic Blue", the East Coast spin-off of USA's late 90's show, "Pacific Blue".

My family are all going to this tonight. We fuckin hate that statue and have wanted it gone for a long time. Between us and my in-laws we are are going to donate a hefty chunk towards the fine required to remove.

I’m not looking at or discussing anything work related until exactly 10 am CT Monday 6/8 in protest of Second Street not publicly supporting Black Lives Matter. I have no intention of discussing anything work-related until then.
I encourage any Second Streeters that agree with me to “punch the clock” and not start work until the literal second you are required to.

Didn’t you say your company has 50 employees? I’m not sure a statement moves the needle. It certainly can’t hurt and I get where your hearts at but a small company is going to say what the bosses say pretty much every time. Good on you though.
You know what you need? A lyrical sucker punch to the face.

I’ve been at this company for 12 years this month and I just have to say this. When I said I meant that not putting out a statement wasn’t the hill I was going to die on I meant it. I’m a grown ass man and more than capable from divorcing my personal feelings from business but if we’re not going to put out a statement as a company recognizing Kristina, Tenille and Dan’s right to exist equally what are we even doing here? There’s no decision in my mind. At the end of the day I’m only a salaryman here as the Japanese put it but Tenille, Kristina and Dan are my brothers and sisters. I’ve made my opinion plain and this is literally my last statement about it unless asked but we’re being cowards if we don’t. I’m not putting them on the spot. No one put me up to this and if there’s any repercussions they should be mine and mine alone. But with 24 hours to think about it I'm more convinced than ever. Either we are committed to racial equity or we’re not. And if we are there’s literally zero downside to doing it in an honest and heartfelt manner and letting the entire world know about it.

Brian Seymour 3:29 PM
We’re better than this. I really believe that. Otherwise we’re just laboring to make money for companies like Gannett/Gatehouse that use private equity capital from plutocrats to destroy newspapers and diminish journalism. And I have zero interest in working at that company. (edited)

Trump demanded 10,000 active-duty troops deploy to streets in heated Oval Office meeting
However, I double checked my bet. I said if no active duty troops went in I'd Venmo $5..."Not Trump will absolutely demand troops be sent in."
So technically you win, Nonlinear, but the Pentagon bailed you out.

Protestors in Belgium have been defacing statues of King Leopold II, which is awesome. This is one of the best history books I've ever read, and it shows the degree to which Leopold was a complete genocidal monster in central Africa:Johnnie wrote: ↑Sun Jun 07, 2020 1:53 pm Black Lives Matter protesters in Bristol pull down and throw statue of 17th-century slave trader into river

Re: The Important Sounds of Things Falling Apart
It drives me nuts how the GOP's strategy of constantly accusing the Dems of taking radical turns to the left works. They've done this since Clinton's presidency if not longer, and it fucking works. The GOP's 2012 nominee is the only Republican who voted for impeachment and the only one joining the protest. Their 2008 nominee was the lynchpin in voting against repealing Obamacare and one of the few vocally anti-Trump Republicans in Congress. Hell, it goes back much further. Someone posted the 1980 GOP primary debate. Reagan took a hard stand in favor of a path to citizenship for illegals with a beautiful speech on the importance of helping Mexico become better so their citizens didn't feel forced to illegally enter America while HW Bush went even further calling for amnesty for illegals. For the most part, the Dems are where the GOP were in the days of Reagan, and the GOP has taken a crazy train turn to the Right, accusing the Left of radicalizing all the while.
I saw a FB friend post something that he usually votes Dem and hates Trump, but seeing how Biden and the Dems are taking the party on such a radical turn, he will have to vote for Trump. Seeing Romney marching just set me off.

Re: The Important Sounds of Things Falling Apart
Anyone who claims they "usually vote Dem" but are going to switch to Trump for 2020 is full of shit and probably someone you should unfriend.
Re: The Important Sounds of Things Falling Apart
Anyone who says shit like this is full of it was always going to vote for Trump. They’re just being defensive and looking to validate a viewpoint that they know many acquaintances of theirs will find morally problematic. (“I’m just a reasonable centrist Democrat, guys!”) I just hope the recent bad polling for Trump isn’t skewed by there being a statistically significant number of suburban white Americans who are embarrassed by, and keeping quiet about, their intent to vote for him.The Sybian wrote: ↑Mon Jun 08, 2020 8:33 am I saw a FB friend post something that he usually votes Dem and hates Trump, but seeing how Biden and the Dems are taking the party on such a radical turn, he will have to vote for Trump. Even "defund the police" doesn't mean defunding the police, so I'd hesitate to worry about it too much. The legislation the Democrats introduced has meaningful reforms and should be looked at as a first step, not the end of the work.

Fatty McButterpants is getting whacked for some of the wording in his column this morning to the point it has been edited. He made a clumsy comparison to "The Lord of the Flies" when talking about Drew Brees:
The closing part, starting with "as one person close to Brees told me", has been removed.
ETA:
"I understand why some are hurt by it." Just apologize and keep this mealy-mouthed cousin of "I'm sorry to those who were offended" off the books, moron.
