Blame Excel rand() if you don't like your seeding. If anyone wants to set up the spotify, that would be AMAZING because right now ours is going non-stop in the house and I just don't feel like having any of the three other people who live here complaining.

Are we def going with your initial thought now that loma has put work in and no one wants to hear him whine if we make him redo it?

And what do you need setup in Spotify exactly?

Ideally someone who has sole control can just build these out as playlists and share.

Also, maybe don't share the playlists until your matchup going forward?

Also also, an invalidate song gets you kicked out of this and swampcrash for life.

"Invalid" song? Meaning wrong year?

I can do this, unless someone else is dying to. I tried to keep the Swamp draft playlist and our "worst songs" thread playlist up to date.

If I'm going to do this, I would suggest that you put some sort of rule on the remixes between rounds. Allow X number of outright replacements, or require Y number of replacements from the same album as the song being removed or something.

Did the song have to be released as a single in the year or just on an album released that year?

The latter. If "Where I Went to Dinner Last Night and Also What I Ate" by Billy Joel was released as a single in 1971 but first appeared on the album I Love Eating Dinner on Long Island, which was released in 1970, "Where I Went to Dinner ..." is a 1970 song.

Also, Rass, I would love if you handled the Spotify stuff.

So we officially get going when Ryan and Giff hit you up. Then there's really no reason to go in order, just as matchups come in until a round is done.

Thoughts on changing playlists each round versus holding steady (2000s music joke!)?

It would be easier for me if no replacements, but spitballing...

One song has to be replaced with something from a different album, and/or maybe one with a different track/same album. Add some strategy for people who are confident they'll last multiple rounds.

Or maybe let the next round's opponent pick one song to be removed and replaced?

And its just more fun not knowing. I try to resist the urge to check prior setlists before going to a show out of fear its the same one over and over and I'll know what song is next before it starts.

Do we put it to a vote on how to handle next rounds? My concern is without clearing out the list, this will be stale pretty quick and I have to weigh that against "more effort for Rass". I do really like the idea of the loser killing an album going forward or something.

We now are finding other singles from the same year as the album we picked, then picking on single off our album, then putting them into a playlist and...I'm lost.

I like the idea of (1) a central account people can go to each time versus 24 different ones and (2) not dealing with this myself.

This is how Spotify playlists work. I make a playlist, post a link, other people click on the link and then hit "follow". After that, the playlist updates for you every time I change it. You don't have to go to my 'account' to listen to it. It's right in your sidebar. So in this game, you'd do that for each of the participants, or 24 playlists that Rass constructs. It's literally the same process, except if we author our own playlists, we can change them as needed, sans Rass.

The thing:

Create a seven (7) song playlist that includes one (1) song from the album you provided as an answer to the thread's initial question, and six (6) other songs, one (1) each from any six (6) other ALBUMS released that same year.

(if it fucking comes to it, let's assume US release dates)
(see jerloma's list earlier as an example)
(and mister d has a bug up his ass about greatest hits and live albums, so don't use those for your supplemental choices)

Your playlist will go head to head with the playlist of the Swamper you are grouped with in the bracket. A vote will be taken, and the winner will move on the next round.

If you have access to Spotify, you should put together the playlist yourself. When appropriate, you will post the link/URL to playlist here. Or do it right away if you don't give a shit if your opponent sees it early.

If you do not have a Spotify account, create a free one? If necessary, send me your list, but ideally you should have a way to listen to everyone else's submissions so you an vote.

There will likely be some level of remix of playlists (forced, or by choice) between rounds but no one has settled on the rules for that yet.

Its only because I thought favorite ever should reflect the year it was relevant, not a year a decade later when the artist needed money and every other release was fucking ska.
