Was scared to ask on Twitter where the crazies are so easily riled up (and you’re very good at that, BTW), but is Dale Jr the one Tony Romo-ing all over this call?

I felt aswirl with warm secretions.

Brian France got caught being naughty (DUI and possession of Oxy).

Save for the next time you hear a NASCAR fan call NFL players "thugs."

If nothing else, this just proves that France is really in tune with his customer base.

How fast do you think they were going? Amazing skill that the other racer did not go down and seemed to barely lose control.

I have to admire the guy's quick thinking. But yeah, kinda dangerous move. He must've thought he wouldn't be seen somehow.

Anyway, my son has followed Moto GP and the lower levels pretty closely the past couple years, and he's convinced the dude's career is over.
And his one problem is he didn’t go to Russia that night because he had extracurricular activities, and they froze to death.

Father of a NASCAR driver killed someone in a DUI accident in Las Vegas yesterday.

This could go in any one of about a dozen threads, but "father of a NASCAR driver" is possibly most noteworthy. He's a prominent businessman who is the grandson of a former Las Vegas mayor who was allegedly doing 90 mph in a residential zone/gated community.

Maybe this is a call to the Bronto Bat Phone but not being an F1 follower, was the incident this weekend typical, unusual, the right call by the race stewards?

I’m amazed he’s alive. We were discussing the way they held news on his condition and I think they did it right. That said it made us believe the worst. Did you see the interview with his teammate, who was the one who was in his bumper trying to push him? Poor kid was white as a ghost. Looked to me like a man who thought he’d accidentally killed a friend. I know those guys sign up knowing that’s a possibility, but shit.

I finally sucked up the nerve to watch Ryan Newman's crash, especially after now that he's been released from the hospital. It really says a lot that he was never listed as more than serious condition. The safety measures NASCAR put in after Earnhardt's death must be doing something right. Although it seems like the more violent-looking the crash the more likely the driver walks away relatively unscathed. I get the cars are designed to take the brunt of the shock, but man that was frightening.

F1 fans? British GP today.

Such a wierd season this year with the crazy schedule. Actually impressive they were even able to pull off 4 races so far with no outbreak (though 1 driver tested positive this week after going home to Mexico for a family emergency during the week).

I'm still finding it more compelling than last few years though, even though Mercedes are in a league of their own. Instead of a clear top 3 teams and then everyone else, now basically there's 6 teams that are really close and different drivers are finally starting to get on the podium. And even if you concede 1st and 2nd to Mercedes the battle between Hamilton and Bottas is still compelling.

Amazing to see what's happened to Ferrari over the last year and half. Went from looking like the best car at the start of last season to beatable by almost anyone this year. That sealed investigation into their engine just had to be devestating. No other way to explain their huge drop in performance, and the decision to protect the them by not releasing the investigation findings.

Prediciton today (top 10):
Hamilton
Verstappen
Leclerc
Bottas
Stroll
Sainz
Norris
Hulkenberg
Vettel
Ricardo

No kidding. Silverstone usually isn't too bad for overtaking, but just not much going on right now anywhere. McLarens looking like they'll have a good day. Feel horrible for Hulkenberg, hope he gets a good shot next weekend.

Holy crap. That was insane. I've been waiting for someone to do one of these free pit stops just to try to get a single fastest lap point and have it blow up in their face and that's what happened to Red Bull. If they didn't pit Max there he blows by hamilton early on the last lap.

I've been helping my daughter cram through a few research papers as she finishes up summer quarter at DU.

Finished with my tasks (finding images for her PPT prezo), I turned on ESPN to find the British GP on and we both started talking about how much we love it... Netflix got us both hooked, but unbeknownst to either of us.

So, she's downstairs in the "home office" cranking out her last assignment and I've recorded the race from lap 32 on... She's already seen it this morning, but can't wait to come up and watch it again with me.

(There were zero onions sliced during the typing of this message board post.)

That's awesome.

I've seen so many comments about people who watched and loved the Netflix F1 series without following the sport at all, and are now checking it out. Just a brilliant job by a sport needing to create new fans and doing it in a modern way.

I hadn't paid attention to racing since to Villneuve and Paul Tracey days of the 90's. Then when we moved to the Maritimes in 2016, all of a sudden I kept finding F1 on at the perfect time - summer weekend mornings at 9am. There was a Canadian driver so by default I had a rooting interest, and they were on a road course going around castles in Baku. My wife even started paying attention so I created a spreadsheet for her with info and history of all the teams and driver bios. Then once the first season of the Netflix show came out and you got such an amazing picture of the characters of everyone involved, it's now part of our weekend schedule on race weeks. We even each drafted drivers and teams and score points against each other.

I like that it has such a different competitive dynamic compared to other sports. You have this dichotomy of being part of a team, but at the same time, for the drivers, your teammate is essentially your only true competitor since he's the only other person in the same car as you, and thus the only one you can say that you are objectively better or worse than. So not only do teams/teammates not fully work as a team in the traditional sport sense, they often really dislike each other.

The team and driver dynamics are fascinating. Like, the whole Red Bull and Toro Rosso angle, where now you kind of have 4 drivers floating around in the mix. Crazy.

Yep. Might actually turn out to be an interesting battle with a bunch more hot european races to go.
Feel bad for Bottas, whether intentional or not, seems like Mercedes plans always go Lewis's way over him.
