Unreleased / Late Released Songs

Post by mister d »

So originals what were either leaked and scrapped or only live without a proper studio release that fans spent years dying to hear on an album.

DMB: Granny
Radiohead: Lift
The National: Rylan

Hit me with others.

Would Last Kiss by Pearl Jam count?

Billy Joel has a song he never released called the best slice in town. Find the lie.

I’m sure The National song sounded like every other National song.

I hate this song so much. There is something about it that reminds me of a torturous nursery rhyme. And it was way overplayed, not sure if it was radio or a friend that was way into Pearl Jam bootlegs that played it incessantly.

To answer bfj's original question, I'd think no, as it's a cover.

It may be my least favorite song of all-time and I'm a pretty big Pearl Jam fan.

Granny is a good one. Awesome song.

I have a 100+ concert Pearl Jam fan friend and "Last Kiss" is the easiest way to annoy him.

Really does not fall into this category I am guessing, but this thread reminded me of the large collection of promotional/demo CDS/tapes, etc that I collected in college. Lots of folks who never made it (Everything, Blue Miracle 2 skinny Js), some who had short runs/regional acts (Jimmy Chicken Shack, Blue Dogs, Cowboy Mouth) and others who did (DMB).

This strange but surprisingly good disc that I somehow got my first year in college may have to get pulled out. It was a promotional compilation cd "So I Got Me One of Them Wiener Dogs".

Hey, I had a Jackopierce promotional CD in college, too! I took it, and I'm pretty sure I never even opened it. I scanned the list and realized that before reading your post. I was thinking I had to be mistaken and thinking I was really out of it, as I'd only heard of a few names on that list. Such a weird memory to trigger.

It was that and DGC Rarities Vol 1 that had a few interesting songs (Counting Crows the radio hit). There is one more album like this that I had with a surprisingly good set of songs from little known bands at the time (including a surprisingly good song from Insane Clown Posse)

Image

Teenage Fanclub, "Mad Dog 20/20" (Gerard Love) – 2:40
Nirvana, "Pay to Play" (Kurt Cobain) – 3:28
Weezer, "Jamie" (Rivers Cuomo) – 4:19
Cell, "Never Too High" (Ian James, Jerry DiRienzo, David Motamed, Keith Nealy, Renée Birkmeyer) – 5:19
Hole, "Beautiful Son" (Courtney Love, Eric Erlandson, Patty Schemel) – 2:28
Beck, "Bogusflow" (Beck) – 3:11
Sonic Youth, "Compilation Blues" (Kim Gordon, Thurston Moore, Lee Ranaldo, Steve Shelley) – 3:00
that dog., "Grunge Couple" (Anna Waronker, Petra Haden, Rachel Haden, Tony Maxwell) – 3:53
Counting Crows, "Einstein on the Beach (For an Eggman)" (Adam Duritz, David Bryson) – 3:53
The Posies, "Open Every Window" (Jon Auer, Ken Stringfellow) – 3:14
Sloan, "Stove/Smother" (Eric's Trip) – 4:44
St. Johnny, "Wild Goose Chasing" (Bill Whitten) – 3:01
Murray Attaway, "Allegory" (Attaway) – 4:32
The Sundays, "Don't Tell Your Mother" (Harriet Wheeler, David Gavurin) – 2:36

The Sloan song is also quite good.
“All I'm sayin' is, he comes near me, I'll put him in the wall.”
