Re: NFL 2020
Further, Matt Patricia leads the NFL in blown fourth quarter leads since taking over for the 2018 season (11, including seven last year).
Coming into Sunday’s game, seven of Trubisky’s nine touchdowns against the Lions were against man coverage and all of them were against four or fewer rushers. All three of Trubisky’s fourth quarter touchdowns Sunday came against man defense with four or fewer rushers.
That's on the 1st/10 of the set of downs that ended with Patricia sending out Matt Prater try a 55-yard field goal.

Was watching with a group and one is pretty die hard Lions fan. Got real quiet for a few minutes. (Most folks were Wash Football Team fans, who were having a weird sensation watching a competent team trot out in the second half.)

Re: NFL 2020
Since my last post about the Bears-Lions opener, I have also found out that the Lions were missing their top three cornerbacks by the end of the game. And yet, people are getting optimistic about Trubisky. And I just remembered writing this about the Bears' quarterback situation (back in April 2017):
Bears did not pick up Trubisky's option prior to the season, so the part I bolded sure seems like fun when you transfer it over to him from Mike Glennon. My favorite potential outcome: Glennon gets hurt this year and Trubisky is thrown into the fire because Mark Sanchez is unplayable. He sucks and Glennon is unknown, leading the Bears to pick up another year of his contract. This cycle repeats the following year with the added bonus of Trubisky being officially ruined. In desperation, the Bears pick up the final year of Glennon's contract and he starts the season hot. The Bears rush to extend his contract, then he ends up sucking as soon as the ink is dry.

“Correct no challenge”?
Doesn’t ESPN usually have the main crew do the earlier game? Not that Fowler and Herbstreit aren’t comfy.

Usually, yes. I think the majority of the second games of this doubleheader since its inception have generally been expected to stink (lots of Raiders involvement, especially in AFC West matchups).

I heard yesterday that NFL Films supplied stadium-specific crowd noise for the TV broadcast teams. I’m surprised they had footage of cheers from MetLife.

I think it's way more useful for more macro analysis than an individual play. "hey this QB threw a bunch of really difficult passes and completed them, maybe the QB is really good and the coordinator sucks" vs the polar opposite "Jimmy Gorappolo last year"

Barkley 15 carries for 6 yards? Good lord, the Steelers front 7 is mean.
Re: NFL 2020
He looked pretty rusty, especially early on, but got better. I'm a bit worried about that left knee. He seemed to be favoring it after hurting it early in the game.

It's probably nice to know who is getting helped out the most by their receivers. You wouldn't want to know how low 2018 Josh Allen's were compared to other QBs getting more help from their WRs? You argued just that but eschew actual numbers that would help solidify your point.

IMO it's more fun to rely on your personal biases and argument skills.
Re: NFL 2020
I think when you're talking stats you should also view them with the eye test. That pass upthread that Pru cited, yeah, that's probably worthless. But there are good uses of the catch probability stat. For example, knowing that this catch had a 6.3% chance of completion only girds the fact that this throw and catch was insane.

Allen Robinson has removed all referenced to the Bears from his twitter account amid reports that he feel disrespected regarding how negotiations toward a contract extension are going. There is also this:

Steelers' Alejandro Villanueva covers name of police shooting victim on helmet with name of military veteran
This dude just loves giving ammo to the aggrieved, eternal victimhood of the right wing, doesn't he? Mike Tomlin is too classy and understands the politics of calling him out, but man, someone ought to.

Re: NFL 2020
I'm a bit torn on this. While I agree with the cause and support the Steeler's decision to put the name on the helmet, imagine if the team decided to put something on the helmet we disagreed with. I get that the Right view this as an anti-police statement. But if a team made a player put some Conservative slogan on the helmet, we'd be saying it was BS to make the Liberal guy on the team wear it, and support him covering it up. I'm really struggling to think of a comparable Conservative statement, but everything I think of is ridiculous, which makes me think I don't have a good point here. Ultimately, how can anyone be against honoring an innocent victim of a police shooting, but the RW skews the sentiment to being anti-police, Marxist, whatever. I don't like forcing someone to wear a political statement they don't agree with.Johnnie wrote: ↑Wed Sep 16, 2020 12:12 am Steelers' Alejandro Villanueva covers name of police shooting victim on helmet with name of military veteran

Re: NFL 2020
I don't think anyone is saying he shouldn't have the right to cover it up, just that he's a fucking asshole for being the type who would want to.
Re: NFL 2020
He covered the name of a shooting victim that the entire team decided on.
The current moment is highlighting police brutality and the Steelers chose the name of a person who died in Pittsburgh because they represent the city.
He went against that and turned it into a "veteran lives matter" moment for himself. He could've chosen another game to do that. He didn't.
He wants to change the narrative just like he did when the team decided not to go out during the National Anthem in 2017. For a former Army Ranger, dude is a very fragile snowflake when it comes to politics.
ETA
Looks like they decided upon the name for the whole season. Makes this even dumber. And look at the base of the helmets. His handwriting on his irrationally angers me. Like when Trump takes a Sharpie to a map and makes it seem like Alabama is going to be threatened by a hurricane.

I have been a huge Tomlin supporter, but if he trouts Conner back out there when he is healthy I will lose faith.. Conner is a very average back and Snell is more explosive.
Re: NFL 2020
Odds we can find a past quote from him about someone being in it for themselves and not the team?
Re: NFL 2020
Well he did have to apologize for his actions in 2017 because it made him look selfish, but I guess he didn't really learn from them.
