this blows my mind.

Years ago I found out about prog/acid-folk duo called Subway that formed after an American singer-songwriter met an English violinist in the subways of Paris in like 1969. They opened for Supertramp back in the day, but had one album that had a run of 200 pressed and most of these were destroyed. I found some song on a YouTube deep dive years ago and sent it to a buddy and well email it back and forth with made of stories of epic nights on tour with Subway.

the video in question

Last night it came up on the suggested videos and I tuned in again, then after some googling to read about the members..the violinist now lives in Boulder and works as a new age motivational speaker and someone filmed a movie(!) of them busking around France and it's fantastic, though I was 4-5 DIPA and more than 4-5 hits off the vape when I tuned in.

I'm not that many IPA in, and haven't hit the pen yet, but I will, and I'll watch that, (if/when the hockey gets boring).

I really enjoyed that as well. I don't know much of their catalog, to be honest. That may be my soundtrack this afternoon.

turn off the lights, tell everyone to get lost, put on some headphones and take ~25 minutes and blow your mind with Supper's Ready.

Y'all need to listen to more Canterbury Prog.

ETA: This is a cross of Egg (Steve Hillage) and Hatfield & The North/National Health (Dave Stewart) and fantastic prog.

Max will try to speak of Phil Collins and how great he is, but you gotta stick with Gabriel Genesis.

and I love that this was the original form of this meme.

ha - i don't think it's an either/or at all. I think if you're sticking in the 1971-1981 decade you're almost certainly getting goddamn solid gold no matter what. yes there are some soft cuts in the latter-70s and Supper's Ready is unbeatable to me but Trick of the Tail (first with Phil at the helm) is my fave Genesis album front to back.

1983's self-titled is ok, definitely have to accept that they're writing good pop songs. Invisible Touch (1986) i recall getting irrationally angry about when it came out :D - i've mellowed over time but i still don't really like it.

This is close to perfection...and what is sung at 2:49 is (along with Mavis Staples' verse from the Last Waltz version of The Weight, and the woman from Great Gig in The Sky is top tier things sung in rock.)

I don't want to drag up painful history, but can someone DM me with a link to, or the story of, Howard's absence from the Swamp?

Not sure what other old dogs I'm missing, but his absence certainly sticks out.

BTW: that Angel from Montgomery track is golden.

Howard's okay, I think.

I feel like Trump may have put him on a prolonged Swamp vacay.

Howard is no Trump fan, but from what he told me I think he felt like his libertarianism was out of step around here. He is still on Twitter somewhat regularly, so you can reach him there. @swamperhoward

I seem to remember that the young SCK used his cheap little tape recorder to tape this tune from the old Midnight Special tv show.

Steve Hillage at 20!

One album from this band and Hillage went on to some amazing things, this is a top of his resume album.

Listening to Joe Pug's brilliant debut today. Probably his best album to date but even more important one of the best written EPs ever made. This gem appears on the record.

I"m reading Never a Dull Moment: 1971 The Year That Rock Exploded big section on Rod. Interesting note, Maggie May was only Every Picture Tells a Story as filler and originally released as a B-side. A station in Milwaukee (IIRC) started playing it and the rest is history.
