You know what this tells me? Before you blame 3rd party voters who play spoiler, maybe you should question the single digit cohort within your own party as to why they went the other way.

Because one is clearly a larger number than the other?
Why it's not 100-0 for Biden amongst Dems and 100-0 amongst Republicans for Trump is a far more substantial question to ask than "3rd party voters."

Re: 2020 Presidential Election: Joe Biden vs Whoever the Republicans Nominate
But if you look at the voter registration numbers, getting an extra two percent of the GOP plus six percent more of independents would be a 307,000 vote margin for Biden unless I did my math wrong.
Slightly more (by about 306,500) than Bush v gore.
eta: That of course would require 100% turnout, so that's not likely. My bad!

Pretty sure I had 18 emails from the Trump campaign just from after midnight today.

So, I talked with the wife, and we've kind of agreed that we will try not to turn on the television until late tomorrow evening. Because, I know as soon as I turn it on, it will stay on, and I'll get all anxious and nervous as I watch it all evening. Might as well try to delay the knots in my stomach for awhile.

You two should just watch a couple movies. Just leave the social media alone and watch channels that won't mention the election.sancarlos wrote: ↑Mon Nov 02, 2020 5:17 pm So, I talked with the wife, and we've kind of agreed that we will try not to turn on the television until late tomorrow evening. And people retain a party identification long after their ideologies change. And some people just don't pay attention and don't really know what's going on with the parties. And others just say crazy shit to pollsters.
Florida Dems went for Obama 87-12 in 2008. If Biden really gets 91-7 among that group, he'll be doing fine.
And his one problem is he didn’t go to Russia that night because he had extracurricular activities, and they froze to death.
Re: 2020 Presidential Election: Joe Biden vs Whoever the Republicans Nominate
Trump was +3 in independents in 2016. If these numbers are true Biden will win Florida +4/5

For sure. Johnnie, it is never 100-0 within each party. Ever.Steve of phpBB wrote: ↑Mon Nov 02, 2020 5:58 pmAnd people retain a party identification long after their ideologies change. Its not, but the logic holds for elections like this (or if it were a Republican with someone like Bernie/AOC vs a centrist). If you vote Trump now you're not a Democrat so you should reclassify.tennbengal wrote: ↑Mon Nov 02, 2020 6:23 pmFor sure. Johnnie, it is never 100-0 within each party. Ever.

Yes, this. If there are people too lazy to change their affiliation and they are just "Democrats for Trump," them fix it.mister d wrote: ↑Mon Nov 02, 2020 6:39 pmIts not, but the logic holds for elections like this (or if it were a Republican with someone like Bernie/AOC vs a centrist). My father switched back and registered Republican so he could vote against a specific candidate in the primary. Then he decided to stay a registered R since my Mom is registered D (hanging fruit!) so they can have a vote in both primaries moving forward.Steve of phpBB wrote: ↑Mon Nov 02, 2020 5:58 pmAnd people retain a party identification long after their ideologies change. I am currently registered as a republican. Mainly to vote for/ against candidates running for local shit. If not, I wouldn't need to vote in any primaries. Pretty red in my neck of the woods.

Re: 2020 Presidential Election: Joe Biden vs Whoever the Republicans Nominate
Conversely, I’ve lived my entire adult life in cities where it’s impossible for Republicans to win local elections. I think David Ortiz got more votes than the GOP candidate in one of the Boston mayoral races when I lived there, and St. Louis is similarly deep blue. So I could see Republicans who lived on those places registering as Dems so they could at least vote for the more conservative candidates in the Democratic primaries.

Re: 2020 Presidential Election: Joe Biden vs Whoever the Republicans Nominate
Hell, this reminded that I am also. I registered R to vote in the primary for governor (after voting in the D primary for president). I haven’t switched back yet.
Usually when polls are talking about party, though, it’s which party the respondents identify with, not how they’re registered. But when states are reporting how many ballots have been returned, it’s based on registration. So I’d be a D in a poll but my ballot is counted as a R having voted.

I do agree but there were signs four years ago that were dismissed by a lot of people. The only way Trump wins (regardless of veracity of that article) is if he grows the electorate by bringing in previous non-voters. But that doesn’t seem so far-fetched.tennbengal wrote: ↑Mon Nov 02, 2020 8:35 pm FYI - the washington examiner is pure propaganda and that above article is pure bullshit.

Re: 2020 Presidential Election: Joe Biden vs Whoever the Republicans Nominate
I have not discussed it in here, but the signs of fraying were apparent in district level polling four years ago. The canary in that dark coal mine, if you will. That same district level polling this time around does not show that at all - it instead shows massive gains for Biden as opposed to Hillary in those same districts and is in fact blinking warning signs for Trump. Haven't wanted to mention it because, I guess, jinx, but that outlet and that article is pretty spurious.brian wrote: ↑Mon Nov 02, 2020 9:08 pmI do agree but there were signs four years ago that were dismissed by a lot of people. If you read the thread within the quoted tweet, it appears that there is a worry that Election Day ballots could get tossed because those have to be in a building. Only 1/10 of those drive up voting areas qualifies as a building. It appears drive up voting was only for early voting.
It doesn't take the sting off of making voting easier, but I get why they had to make the call.
