NFL Week 11

Post by Gunpowder »

Week 10 wasn't great but wasn't awful. Though if I just flipped a coin I'd expect similar results sooooo

I don't think it will be a huge adjustment.

Guess the pundits were right about pro athletes not being able to handle living in Vegas, but turns out it was the NFL and not the NHL.

Brian, is it your sense that the Las Vegas locals are or are not embracing the Raiders the way they embraced the Golden Knights?

I was assuming that the players were simply just close contacts of Clelin Ferrell (who tested positive and is out Sunday)

Honestly, they are more than I thought, but the exact degree is definitely difficult to gauge because of COVID. Not so much from the home games, I think at first those will be at least 80-90 percent Raiders fans, but haven't been around a sportsbook or a big sports bar on a Sunday to really get a feel. Still see a LOT more VGK gear being worn around town than Raiders though.

Newly acquired Edge Rusher Carlos Dunlap was wearing the uncommon number 43 last night, as Edge Rushers need to be in the 90s, 70s, 50s, or (rarely) 60s. If he went out onto the Offense, would he have to have checked in? Jersey numbers in the 40s are normally reserved for RBs, Safeties, and (rarely) TEs.

No, just like a linebacker wearing a number in the 40s wouldn't have to either (and I'm guessing they're just classifying him as a LB)

The way they've allowed re-numbering of players in the NFL led to an interesting question I heard posed during a game this year. Who's the best wide receiver still wearing a number in the 80's?

Among WRs still wearing 80's, unless I missed someone, Tyler Boyd has the most receptions at 60 (8th in the league), followed by CeeDee Lamb at 44 (16th) and Tee Higgins at 40 (tied for 26th). Boyd's 625 yards are 20th in the league with Higgins and Lamb (and Darius Slayton) right behind him, while Higgins and Marquez Valdes-Scantling are the only guys with 4 TDs.

Cordarrelle Patterson is not your answer, but I admit it was weird seeing a guy in #84 run that fast this week.

If, and this is a huge if, he gets his head back on somewhat straight, Antonio Brown is back to wearing 81.

Iconic receivers have closed off most of the 80s numbers, so it only makes sense that the teens are now in vogue.

80 - G.O.A.T.
81 - Owens
82 - ...drawing a blank on this one
83 - ditto
84 - Moss
85 - Chad
86 - Hines Ward
87 - Muhsin comes to mind
88 - besides some iconic TEs, Marvin
89 - Steve Smith

Depends on how you view Antonio Brown but I'd probably take him over Marquez Valdes-Scantling.

All I could think of for 83 was Welker and he's really not far from the top at that number:

Andre Reed is the top for 83 in terms of AV. His HoF nod is clearly deserved, and he was a great one, but his numbers look pale if you're looking at them with 2020 lenses.

And I'm kicking myself for missing Reggie Wayne for 87.

Holy shit, Saints are gonna start Taysom Hill this week. That will change my projection. BRB

EDIT: Saints go from 45-16 winner to 27-16 winner, so no real change there effectively.

I'm not a big proponent of running a full game of Taysanity.

Drastically revamped SOS calcs - don't like the results (it turns the Bengals-Football Team score into a shootout) but going to run it this week just to test.

Funny, Taysom Hill has been in the league for three years now, and has a total of 10 completions. I guess this week we will finally find out if he really can play quarterback in the NFL.

Due to bye weeks and previously picked teams, my options are limited. There are six of us left out of the original 28 - and none of the six have taken the Vikings so far - so they are likely to be heavily hit. Which means I want off that game (plus maybe Dalton's return makes the Cowboys offense at least NFL competent).

Don't want to hop on the Taysom Hill experience in survivor.

All of which is to say, I am going with the Bengals this weekend. God help me.

That assumes Drew Brees is starting so obvs I understand passing up on the Saints, I just think Washington is better than people think. I personally do think Cincinnati will win that one though.

I think it is very likely that, during Brees' absence, the Saints have a TD pass thrown by someone other than Hill or Winston. In related news, Emmanuel Sanders is 3/3 for 78 yards and 2 TD in his career.

I have no backing for this other than the simple feeling that Payton is going to use this time to show off.

Five of your top seven plays are unavailable to me due to having used them prior. The ones that are not are the aforementioned MN/DAL game, the CAR/DET game, and the Saints who I will not touch now due to the QB weirdness and then you come to the WAS/CIN game. Agree Washington is slept on a bit, but I think so too the Bengals. Two blowout losses and the rest of have been within a score and one Bengals win beyond 8 points. I don't see Washington blowing them out, and there is a LOT of pressure on Taylor now to find some wins in a part of the schedule that offers some chances. And, I want to bet on Burrow at least once this year.

So, what if the Vikings are heavily picked. They are coming on, and are a 7 point favorite. Just my two cents, but I think you should put aside your loyalty to the Bengals and go with a much greater likelihood.

Anyone betting on that CAR/DET better have some good inside information, because there's basically no skill players (on two teams that don't have many of those to begin with) playing in that one.
