At home now. The tiniest beast is asleep. Wife and older two are in bed. Just me and a sourdough loaf, some pot, the Gator game, and ..... to drink.

This is more than acceptable. In fact, I'ma pour myself a little doublewood here after this next drink.
Switching to Topo Chico for a second, (and weed). Need a tiny break. What should I have next?

A) nothing
B) another Topo or Kombucha
C) Stella dark
D) an 18 yr Islay that I picked up after Scotland qualified for Euro 2021
D. Especially after weed. The tasting notes will be off the heezey.
Think that's the right choice. It's tasty. Smooth enough that the wife enjoys it, peaty enough to pack a little punch, sweet enough as well.

Bowmore. Never had, or seen it, before yesterday. Quite good. $30 off at the local.

Yup. On board here. The variance is much less than in other spirits ('ll go so far as to say even with the cheaper stuff vs. premium - but not the bottom shelf rotgut).

The spectrum with vodka is definitely different than other spirits. I definitely prefer Tito's to the rest, but it's not expensive. With whiskey, there's generally a level that starts around $100/BTL where you can taste the increased quality.

Stone Buenaveza (salt and lime lager) goes well when paired with burritos made with Juansauce.

Been drinking this a lot lately myself. It’s really good. One of the best twists on a Mexican lager I’ve had.

Oh wow, less than a mile from my freshman/sophomore year dorm. I need to check with my still local friends on this, haven't even heard of them before tonight.

C&P is really good. Not Tired Hands level great, but we've stopped there every time we've been in the city the past 2 or 3 years.

If it helps, I got it in the new 24-pack Stone sampler at Costco (IPA, Delicious IPA, Tangerine Express).

Big fan of the fact that it's four sealed six-packs in the case instead of 24 loose cans.

All of Stone’s IPA’s are solid. I like sampler packs, too. Just went to Total Wine and got IPA samplers from Firestone Walker and Deschutes. Plus a sixer of FW Nitro Merlin Stout.

I’ll look for that, now that Deschutes is available in NJ. Bought a sixer of Xocoveza already. One of the few beers I continue to buy every year. More pepper than I remember, but the pepper fades pretty fast. Still a great beer. I love Mexican hot chocolate stouts. Westbrook Mexican Cake is still by far my favorite, but I will continue getting Stone’s every year.

I went into the liquor section at BJs on Monday, surprised to see a bunch of Bourbon County Stout on the shelf. First because they aren’t supposed to sell before Black Friday, but also it’s a tiny section of the store, and they are very particular in portioning BCBS to stores that sell the most Goose Island or ABInBev

Next year man up and drink the bloody Mary’s first and then run.

Sorry, getting sick just thinking about that.

I ran early, too. Great temps today but the rain picked up in the middle.

I ran once after drinking Bloody Mary's. No more of that. The rain held off for the run but not for drinking in the bar parking lot.

I decided I need to get back into drinking more Belgian style beers. Just exploded open a Trader Joe’s 2017 Vintage Ale from Unibroue. I think I have Rush to thank for talking up the TJs Vintage Ales. Aged really nicely. I twisted the cage once and the cork exploded like a shotgun. Luckily I had the bottle tilted away from myself and my family. Looked at reviews on BeerAdvocate and 3 of the first 5 or so all commented on exploding corks. Beware if you buy these.

Last night I had a KBS Mackinaw Fudge Maple. Chocolate and fudge are overpowering and surprisingly no alcohol on a fresh 11% Bourbon barrel stout. It’s good, but I’m not living it.

Similarly, bought a bottle of Basil Hayden, and I don’t know why I used to like it so much. Maybe peety Scotches ruined my tastebuds, but it seems really thin and weak on flavor. It’s like watered down Four Roses.

Try a Rochefort 10. Should be available at any better liquor store. Best quad I've ever had (I like it better than Westvleteren, though truth be told I only had like 6 oz of it.)

Used to love the Rocheforts, especially 10. Fuck, it’s gotta be 12 years since I’ve had it. Was actually looking at it this week. My favorite Belgian. Where did you get Westvleteten? That was like the Holy Grail of beers.

I have a friend that is the GM one of the big liquor stores in Denver. They got an allotment a few years ago when it was released here in the US to raise money for some major repair at the monastery. They bought a case for the staff of the store to share (I was working part-time there to get these types of beer.)

Wife and I are thinking of hitting Belgium when we can and doing the Trappist tour.
