Yup. That's always been an annoyance. A coffee "cup" is 6 oz and it's bullshit.

I think my piece-of-shit coffeemaker uses 4-ounces as a cup.

Michael Jackson wrote only 4 of the 9 songs on Thriller.

I'd always thought he wrote them all.

Same thing happened to my wife's cousin a couple years ago. She was 42. To make it worse, after two autopsies and nearly a year no cause of death was able to be determined.

Yup. They never did figure out exactly how my 25yo nephew died in his sleep in March. (We couldn’t do the funeral b/c Covid but finally saw his mom on this month’s trip.)

Can you walk into the public woods and take branches and logs that have already fallen off trees? Like is that some weird form of stealing or is it perfectly fine / helpful?

I'd avoid doing that. Technically it's stealing, and you shouldn't be altering a natural setting in any way.

Downed wood provides ecological functions as part of a forest. So technically it’s a weird form of stealing - but taking a couple sticks or cones or something isn’t a big deal.

Around here the USFS issues firewood- and Christmas-tree-cutting permits so they can keep control over it.

Actual regulations notwithstanding, I think my judgement would depend on how much you're taking away. A walking stick, or like one cool-looking log, meh. If you're harvesting a season's worth of firewood or something, not cool!

This is it. You want to collect some leaves or specimens for a project or something that's one thing. Anything more you're violating "leave no trace".

Wow, that's crazy. Wish they explained why there are so many soccer ball factories in one town, but interesting to see the manufacturing process.

Kinston High School in Kinston, NC was founded in 1970 when the two segregated high schools were combined. Since then, one in every 58 players on the Kinston High basketball team has been drafted or played in the NBA.

I sometimes drive though Kinston on the way to/from the beach. It's a sad town. It grew up on tobacco and textile manufacturing money that's just not coming back.
