Reports that Mike Pence called the family of the Capitol Police officer who was killed, but Trump didn't. Capitol flag at half mast, WH refused to lower the flag, despite the media pestering them about it. What a fucking petty prick. Mr. Law and Order. Fuck him so much.

I took a photo of myself last night holding a music stand and semi dressed like that dipshit, who ironically enough, lives not far from here. Not going to post it here, but it got a shitton of laughs from a couple group texts with family and friends.

This is all really funny right up until you think about the things he didn’t put this level of effort into. Then it’s less funny.

Yup. And you know the longest phone call of his presidency was the one to the GA Secretary of State.
And his one problem is he didn’t go to Russia that night because he had extracurricular activities, and they froze to death.

My wife took the photo! My Men in Blazers toque was a close enough match for his hat, and the music stand was the closest ridiculous proxy that I could come up with for the podium. I got the ruddy, jolly grin down exactly, but my body angles could have been better. Not posting it anywhere outside my very innermost circle because I don't want it misconstrued. Maybe I'll show it to you at the next Swamp meetup.duff wrote: ↑Fri Jan 08, 2021 10:12 pmWe aren't considered family and friends? So a lot of these people who broke into the Capitol and rioted are getting citations which are payable by mail. That will show them.

Re: The WH Transition Thread --- all things Trump to Biden until Inauguration
Is there evidence that that particular person did anything other than walk into the Capitol Building and look around or take selfies?
And his one problem is he didn’t go to Russia that night because he had extracurricular activities, and they froze to death.
Re: The WH Transition Thread --- all things Trump to Biden until Inauguration
Have prosecutors cared in similar cases involving riots and looting? So much of the justice system seems to be based on what cops initially do and their reports. Capitol Police previously pulled protesters off wheelchairs and arrested nuns praying. Do prosecutors treat them the same as people caught trespassing (but with no evidence of doing anything else) after the fact because police didn't do anything in the moment this time?Steve of phpBB wrote: ↑Sat Jan 09, 2021 8:49 amIs there evidence that that particular person did anything other than walk into the Capitol Building and look around or take selfies?
Re: The WH Transition Thread --- all things Trump to Biden until Inauguration
George Conway asked a good question...
And found the answer to that question.
As reported below:
https://www.alreporter.com/2021/01/0...ch-at-capitol/
https://documented.net/2021/01/repub...ol-mob-attack/
And found the answer to that question.
As reported below:
https://www.alreporter.com/2021/01/0...ch-at-capitol/
And while we're talking about the Republican Attorneys General Association:Alabama Attorney General Steve Marshall plays a critical role in the group that helped organize the protest and rally that preceded the riots, attack and attempted insurrection at the U.S. Capitol on Wednesday.
Marshall leads the Republican Attorneys General Association’s dark-money nonprofit Rule of Law Defense Fund, which is listed as a participating organization for the March to Save America on the march’s website, as are the groups Stop the Steal, Tea Party Patriots and Turning Point Action.
The website is now down, but archived versions show RLDF as a participating group.
https://documented.net/2021/01/repub...ol-mob-attack/
RLDF also sent out a robocall detailing where and when the protest would take place.
“I’m calling for the Rule of Law Defense Fund with an important message,” the robocall stated. “The march to save America is tomorrow in Washington D.C. at the Ellipse in President’s Park between E St. and Constitution Avenue on the south side of the White House, with doors opening at 7:00 a.m. At 1:00 p.m., we will march to the Capitol building and call on congress to stop the steal. We are hoping patriots like you will join us to continue to fight to protect the integrity of our elections. For more information, visit MarchtoSaveAmerica.com. This call is paid for and authorized by the Rule of Law Defense Fund, 202-796-5838.”
RLDF’s role in organizing the protests, which turned into a violent mob attack inside the Capitol, is ironic given its 2020 election campaign warning of “lawless liberal mobs” burning down buildings and committing violence. The campaign, dubbed “Lawless Liberals”, came in the aftermath of the largely peaceful protests following the murder of George Floyd by police and the shooting of Jacob Blake.

1. Having read various charging documents filed in connection with this summer’s protests/vandalism, generally the answer to your first question is yes. Though there are exceptions.EdRomero wrote: ↑Sat Jan 09, 2021 9:32 amHave prosecutors cared in similar cases involving riots and looting? 2. When prosecutors *don’t* exercise similar care in cases involving disorder arising from BLM protests, we universally say that’s a bad thing because prosecutors shouldn’t overcharge.

Rumor this morning there are at least 5 current sitting Republican Senators that are considering part change.. Not saying they will switch to Dem, but most likely Independent.
Murkowski is one.. I would say the other 4 are Romney, Collins, Sasse, and Rand Paul are the others.

Impeachment could play out in an interesting way. It sounds like it would take all 100 Senators to agree to do a hearing before Trump if the house acted quickly.
So, that would move the trial to Schumer's senate. It would still require a supermajority of 2/3s to convict. How tempting would it be for the Republicans to be able to put forth 17 votes to disqualify Trump from running in 2024? GOP strategists have to realize this is the best path forward for the party. They are throwing 17 Senators to the wolves in primaries and such, so can they find 17 willing to take one for the team? Someone like Toomey who ends in 2022 and not running again in a toss up seat anyways.

Re: The WH Transition Thread --- all things Trump to Biden until Inauguration
Interesting thread.
I think Navalny is ultimately wrong because he fails to consider Twitter’s own right to control its own brand and public image, or its right to make an important public point that Trump’s lies about the election aren’t acceptable.
But censorship, even by private parties, should not be taken lightly.

Re: The WH Transition Thread --- all things Trump to Biden until Inauguration
The president of the United States did just fine getting his message across for 240 years before trump used Twitter as his main channel for coms. He can still say whatever he wants he just has to fucking put in more than the absolute minimum amount of effort.
My gall is sufficiently mitigated. Thank you for your concern.
Re: The WH Transition Thread --- all things Trump to Biden until Inauguration
I think people should hold their powder on criticizing Twitter until we know more about what Trump’s been doing the past few weeks and how it related to the riot itself.
Re: The WH Transition Thread --- all things Trump to Biden until Inauguration
Brown isn’t the first(?) senate name I expected to see here. I don’t expect it, but I would laugh my dick off if one of the three biggest pieces of shit in the senate sacrificed the other two biggest pieces of shit to clean the slate.

2. There’s a huge fucking difference between Twitter and column space on the front page of a national newspaper. Twitter is open to literally billions of people. The front pages of the NYT/WP are not.
