I love Steve Marriott. Especially the Small Faces.

Tin Soldier, All or Nothing, and Afterglow of Your Love top the list for me.

I read that book, too! I enjoyed it.

Yeah, Afterglow is a good one. Ogdens Nut Gone Flake is probably a top 5 60s LP of mine.

Marriott's voice is so damn powerful.

A couple early tracks from Humble Pie

Circa ''69-'70 they'd play two set shows with the opening one being acoustic. They'd typically close out their acoustic sets with this cover of this Graham Gouldman song

Funny, I think about twenty pages ago, we went through a spate of Small Faces/Humble Pie/Marriott posts. Not that I’m complaining now mind you! Steve Marriott is deservedly revered in England but sadly a cipher to most here on our side of the pond. I was introduced to Humble Pie by a friend who really loved “I don’t need no doctor”.

I just got into the first two LPs before they discovered their crunchy blues/hard rock explosiveness.

It's based on a response to lyrics in their song Keep On Truckin'.

I think it might have been a joke name as they were supposedly a one or two-off band while Airplane was on hiatus, then they got a (silly) name for themselves, started opening for Airplane, then started touring by themselves.

Speaking of band name stories, one of my favorites is that The Replacements originally called themselves, "Dogbreath".

One of my favourites of all time

Orginally written as "Midnight Plane to Houston" after the songwriter talked to Farrah Fawcett on the telephone and spoke about her upcoming plans. He recorded it as a country song of sorts, then changed to Train to Georgia for a version by Cissi Houston (Whitney's mom) and Gladys. Gladys recorded her vocals first take.

So, I went down a New Wave rabbit hole tonight. Ah, New Wave, punk's cousin that got a shower, shave, funny haircut, and arty videos. To wit, here's three examples:

Oh, that was a great cover, though hilarious that she sings in a much lower register than Plant...I mean those pants were fucking tight.

and one of my fave Zep tunes done by one of the best cover bands of all time.
