I've got 276,000 chips give or take and he has 46,000 and he acts first after the flop -I assume he will be shoving - but if he checks...should I check back to get him on the hook? I don't want to scare him off when it should just be a matter of figuring out how to get all his chips into the pot. The current pot is $28,800 after all the pre-flop betting. If he checks, maybe bet half that? Or stay with the check back plan?DSafetyGuy wrote: ↑Sat Jan 23, 2021 6:57 pmYou're going all-in, right?tennbengal wrote: ↑Sat Jan 23, 2021 6:31 pm Just flopped quads against a guy who re-raised 4x over a first raiser (I limped after the initial raise). Re: WRGPT 30
He's got limited options to beat you, but I would figure he's got one of those options alive (higher pocket pair to get to a better set of quads - I don't see going 4X with K-Q suited, which gets him to the high end of a straight flush draw). I mean, if he checks here after making that aggressive a pre-flop raise, you can check again to try to bleed him out. If he does check, your bet should be around 40% of his stack, basically making him go all-in because if he's going to call that, he may as well go in.
I just have a hard time seeing him go from 4X to limping because three smaller cards came in the flop. If he does have a pocket pair, the only thing he thinks he's behind on is if you have A9/K9 because you called his 4X raise.

Re: WRGPT 30
At this point in this hand, you have an exceptionally large lead. Based on the information thus far, this guy can only win if he gets higher quads or a straight flush, needing two (or three, if he has J-10 suited along with one of the 9's on the board) exact cards to win.
Doing the math, it seems like the big blind is around 3K right now and the other guy has about 20 hands worth of chips left. He may have just tried to steal the blinds due to their being no aggressive plays pre-flop, especially if he was in late position.
One of the things I've read that stuck with me the most about strategy for Hold 'Em is to make your opponents make decisions for their entire stack of chips. I understand trying to bleed this guy, but if he's not backing up his pre-flop aggression, you're probably not going to get it out of him unless he makes something down the line. Making this relatively modest raise in comparison to the pre-flop action is going to get him in or get him out. While you're not really at risk to lose at all, there's no point in giving him free cards. I'm sure you want to make the quads count for as much as possible, but that's only going to happen if he has a monster hand.

Unless he is trying to bluff me, but given my stack that would be a pretty terrible play on his part.

Yeah, hard to imagine that when you have a 6X chip lead on him.tennbengal wrote: ↑Sat Jan 23, 2021 8:34 pm Unless he is trying to bluff me, but given my stack that would be a pretty terrible play on his part.

Re: WRGPT 30
What about pocket fives for him. Would he have not checked or is he playing you?
I man. He thinks he is playing you. Obviously you have that beat. sorry
He’s probably betting on you having trip nines

No idea what is in his head. If he has pocket fives the 99 will still give him pause in case I was on A9. So maybe he checks to see what i do. I am assuming he is AK or AQ and will push all in now figuring I am trying to buy the pot.

I won a game with pdx buddies hitting quad nines on the river. I was way ahead too and the other game was starting anyway.

He had an over pair! He shoved with KK on the 99653 board (three hearts) and I scooped up his 147000 bet with nut quad 9s.
Now have $455000 and back in the tourney lead.

Re: WRGPT 30
So...do you have AA or KK or QQ?
1/4 of my stack that I am slightly ahead if you are AK or AQ. 1/4 of my stack that I am way ahead if you are a lesser pair. 1/4 of my stack that you are AA, KK, QQ and I am way behind.
Hmmm.

I was already all in before you made the post but then i saw your hand.

Good luck

32 left . I am in 12th with $919K.
A few weeks ago I took a hit from $1.34 million down to $850Kwhen someone was all-in and I had QQ.
Made the call - he showed 10/10 and then board runout gave him a straight.
What can you do...

You're at the point where I don't know if the poker skill or the degree of patience required to make it this long is more admirable.

Re: WRGPT 30
Yeah, I haven't signed up in a few years because it was so painstakingly long. I finished in 45th in 2013-14 and 32nd in 2007-08 (when timgod made the final table), with one ending in late April and the other in May. I think the last time I did enter I used up all my timeouts quickly.DSafetyGuy wrote: ↑Thu Apr 22, 2021 11:36 am You're at the point where I don't know if the poker skill or the degree of patience required to make it this long is more admirable.

My AA against his KK. All-ins prior to the flop. He flopped a K and that was that. Fun run.
