Damn, I forget about this thread. If you are a PC gamer, Epic is giving away a free game every week. Some are good (Star Wars Battlefront II) some are not.

I have been playing the absolute shit out of Assassins Creed Odyssey and it is tremendous. Such a fun and engrossing game. I enjoyed Black Flag a lot, but feel Odyssey is superior just due to the variety of things you can do.

I might have asked this before, but is a switch worth it? seems like it'd be fun and 1. we have costco money to spend to pay for it and 2. we've got a long flight(s) coming up that it would get use during

We've only played Mario Kart. I'm typically not a big fan of video games unless they're sports. Any recs for the Switch?

Depends on the type of games you're into. I love indie stuff. I've been playing the shit out of Hades. Before that a lot of Dead Cells, Enter the Gungeon.
My wife and I like Overcooked 2! which got her into playing with me and she's not a gamer at all. (go ahead and ... that one).
The AAA stuff is very good from what I hear. I just like the shop where I can go pick up something fun to play for 15-20 bucks. Sometimes it's 5 hours and I'm over it, sometimes I sink 100s into it.

I tried Doug Fluties' Ultimate Football (it has all D-1 colleges, faked of course) and CFL rules! but boy howdy it was super hard to play. Not sure if I'm just used to EA arcade action or what, but it was incredibly hard to do anything on offense, though I did take a kick-off to the house.) I'm hoping that it improves so EA has a competitor, but really really not worth the current price tag.

It's a bunch of games wrapped into one. I play with a couple of buddies so it's got that social aspect. You can go rampaging, be a builder/farmer/hunter, or just go exploring. It's admittedly a little clunky (early access, small dev team) but once you get set up with a few things it gets fun.Johnny Carwash wrote: ↑Fri Mar 05, 2021 10:59 amI got it last weekend and have messed around for an hour or so but am underwhelmed so far. Re: Video Games Thread (See first post for Swamper handles)
Been playing Star Trek Fleet Command on the iPad the past couple months. It’s a fun game that organizes players into alliances, allowing them to forge their own faction paths (Federation, Klingon, Romulan, Augment, Rogue)...It’s one of the uglier freemium games I’ve seen though. The grind is real, but if you want to drop $99.99 to alleviate some of it (but not all of it), you are more than welcome to do so.

I've been playing God of War on the PS5. Not a ps5 game, just the latest entry. It's pretty damn fun, and it was free as I am a ps plus subscriber and they made a lot of titles available for free. The Show will probably be my first ps5 game purchase. And I see it's no longer a PS exclusive.
Hold on, I'm trying to see if Jack London ever gets this fire built or not.

Valheim clicked for me and I have 23 hours in per the Steam tracker. Once you discover more things to find/build it really opens up. I like the way it lets you figure things out for yourself.Rush2112 wrote: ↑Fri Mar 05, 2021 11:21 amIt's a bunch of games wrapped into one. Re: Video Games Thread (See first post for Swamper handles)
Speaking of NIL, case is at the Supreme Court today. I wonder if this goes badly for the NCAA how fast they will have stupid watered down proposals ready. I'd imagine (and in fact they'd be even more negligent if not) if they don't already have several plans under review and trying to figure out which one protects their revenue the most.Brontoburglar wrote: ↑Tue Feb 02, 2021 4:19 pm yeah there are a couple of convenient workarounds right now
there's no NCAA license, so the NCAA itself won't make a dime on it
since NIL is in flux, EA says that it's proceeding with fake rosters that won't resemble the real-life rosters. that's the hedge against NIL reform as it'd be hard for players to say that they have a claim to money if they can't prove it's them in the game.
ultimately, I think the rosters are real if NIL reform gets figured out and EA works out something with the schools. but if they keep the rosters to be modified by users, that may ultimately be a moot point.

If anyone here likes Dark Souls 3, the Cinders mod is really sweet if you've already played through the game. lot of QoL changes, way more gear, and armor has bonuses so they matter more. definitely recommend for the free dollars it costs. It's also easy to install, which generally can't be said for mods.

I got midway through the first Dark Souls, and really enjoyed the experience, but hit a point where it was just too fucking hard and after trying off and on, just gave up. I am in awe of anyone who is able to beat those games.blundercrush wrote: ↑Wed Mar 31, 2021 12:10 pm If anyone here likes Dark Souls 3, the Cinders mod is really sweet if you've already played through the game. lot of QoL changes, way more gear, and armor has bonuses so they matter more. definitely recommend for the free dollars it costs. I saw your uptick! I'm really doing a slow burn as our group can only get together once a week or so, we're in the bronze age, but armed to the teeth and kicking everything's ass, took us a really long time to find enough tin. We're looking for the elder, but he's super far away.Johnny Carwash wrote: ↑Sun Mar 07, 2021 7:59 pmValheim clicked for me and I have 23 hours in per the Steam tracker. Original Dark Souls is one of my all time favorite games. There are definitely easier ways to beat it and harder ways to beat it and if you try doing it the hard way without knowing...it's pretty brutal. Dark Souls 3 is definitely more of the same but more refined.Johnny Carwash wrote: ↑Wed Mar 31, 2021 5:50 pmI got midway through the first Dark Souls, and really enjoyed the experience, but hit a point where it was just too fucking hard and after trying off and on, just gave up. Bought the show for ps5 even though it might still be a ps4 game at the moment. Get the automatic upgrade when next gen is realized. May be wrong.

So Valheim is still in early access, but they dropped a pretty big update last week. Still only 20$. So if you want to game with buddies, your kids, or just live as a Viking, it's highly recommended.Rush2112 wrote: ↑Fri Mar 05, 2021 11:21 amIt's a bunch of games wrapped into one.
