Probably would have won more if he hadn't been injured.

Pretty safe bet. I think the bigger issue is paying that much to a mobile QB coming off a horrific leg injury. Granted he didn't rely on running, but it's still a gamble.

if the main point was that he played 4.5 games before a season-ending injury then why did you cite the Cowboys only winning one of them and not that he only played 4.5 games before a season-ending injury?

eta: this board is largely better than using absurd metrics like wins as a judgment of a QB. it doesn't feel like an absurd ask to point out the absurdity on the rare occasion it's utilized

OK contract that turns great if a lot goes well, and they can easily pivot to another QB if they're happy with a qb they draft or a good trade offer comes along.

I like it. Hopefully they lock up a couple talents and lots of depth pieces to multi yr deals before the draft. Guess they figure they don't need thuney but they could have the best ol in football. Hides a lot of qb problems.

Doug Williams might use a different word. From wikipedia, because it's easy:
Williams was the only starting African-American quarterback in the NFL at that time. During his tenure with the Buccaneers, Williams was paid $120,000 a year, the lowest salary for a starting quarterback in the league, and less than the salary of 12 backups. After the 1982 season, Williams asked for a $600,000 contract. Bucs owner Hugh Culverhouse refused to budge from his initial offer of $400,000 despite protests from coach John McKay. Feeling that Culverhouse was not paying him what a starter should earn, Williams bolted to the upstart United States Football League’s Oklahoma Outlaws.

Hey DSafetyGuy. Bears just reworked contracts on Eddie Jackson, Khalil Mack and Cody Whitehair to clear up 23 million in space.

Russell Wilson might actually happen?

All that movement got them $4 million under the cap, which includes that they get the extra $7 million of space due to carryover from not using all their space previously (they can go up to $189.5 million).

That was a slightly long-winded way of saying "no".

They're still going to make cuts, likely Bobby Massie at RT (slim chance of Charles Leno at LT) and hopefully Jimmy Graham, as well as possibly extend some other contracts, like Kyle Fuller at CB, but I don't see Wilson (or Watson or another QB of consequence) happening.

Besides, why get a top-line QB when your O-line is blah (before any cuts to returning starters), Darnell Mooney is your WR2, and most of your defensive playmakers are 30+ (Jackson and Roquan Smith are the exceptions)? And now that former Andy Reid QB Alex Smith is available? I've been ready for him to get signed since he was released last week.

Relevant to nothing except the Bears O-line being brought up, my wife’s boss’ son plays for the Bears. Sam Mustipher.

Rivers, less so on all counts. He’ll get in though.

The desperation in Foxboro is palpable. Good teams aren't built through free agency. Dollar Bill trying to buy the Pats back to relevance is doomed to fail.

The Patriots essentially turning into the Washington Football Team is a welcome development. They're already printing the "Offseason Champions 2021" banner to hang in Gillette.

Titans have released Malcolm Butler, Kenny Vaccaro and Humphries, have traded last year's 1st flop to Miami, lost Jonnu Smith to the Pats and Corey Davis will be gone very soon.

Long and short of their off-season so far, with other FA moves happening means that the Titans will be replacing 9 of 22 starters from the 2020-21 season - 3 on Offense and 6 on Defense. The cap situation this off-season has been crazy...

Brian lost his mind. Pats having a great day. These are all medium level fa deals for youngish vets. Now let's see if they can stock the fridge with a bunch of backups in the rest of fa and find a bunch more in the draft.

First time the Patriots have cap space in years and they spend money on players in their primes. Out of their minds and desperate I guess. This was the plan way before Brady won anything.

Moss, Welker, Vrabel, Harrisson, Colvin were great draft picks.

What is the correct move for Belichick to make when he has tons of cap space in an offseason when other teams are in cap trouble, especially after a season when he was hamstrung by a terrible cap situation? And who did he overpay for?

I’m just telling you that however good you think these signings are guys hit FA for a reason. This isn’t a position you want to be in. I’ve been seeing this shit play out since modern FA started two decades ago. Sure, you add a piece or two with FA but if you’re counting on it to build a team it’s not gonna happen.

Yeah, I generally agree, but I think it's a unique situation for them this year with this year's cap situation. He did a ton of signings (much more low costs ones) before their first Super Bowl win. Granted their QB situation worked out well for them then and that's still a huge question mark no matter who they bring in.

Combination of the cap reduction and Brady money clearing created opportunities not normally available in those numbers. Agree that drafting way better than signing but he'll have his chance to get that done too. Won't have to go any certain direction to fill holes and that helps. Best available. Of course they need a qb but I'd rather build the team back up before you have to give 20% of the cap to a guy. They'll get another chunk when Gilmore comes off.
