Gonna put some money on Colorado to win the whole enchilada when I'm back in Vegas at the end of the month. Not sure there's a more complete team in the NHL. Only one close would be Tampa. Only good news is hopefully Vegas should be able to duck Colorado in the first round and who knows what happens once playoffs start.

They’re probably shortest odds right now, right?

Flyers are more fun when Hart is in goal.

Really gonna miss Brendan Lemieux because now once per game I won’t wonder “did he take or draw one this time” and nothing else.

This was great to see. They're going to make me a Ducks fan, which would have been unimaginable a few years ago. They were actually on NBCSN twice last week. (Both games were against Minnesota. I was going to come in here and post a Sweet Boy Alert, but I figured chedda already knew.) But, because we're never allowed to enjoy anything for very long, Drysdale left Friday's game with an apparent concussion.

Kirby Dach made his season debut for Chicago last night. He played 20 minutes, third most among Chicago forwards. My interest in the Hawks is climbing.

Red Wings sweep Columbus in under 24 hours and have averaged a point a game in their last 17 games. I know that is below average for the NHL and they're averaging under 2.5 goals per game in that span, but still a significant improvement for them. 28th in goals scored in the league, but 7-0-1 in this span when they score 3 or more. Could competence actually be returning?

I know they want to prevent tanking but for Buffalo to only have an 18.5% chance of getting the #1 pick seems unfair.

A month or so ago, I was thinking that this would be an acceptable year to lose the lottery because there are three really strong players at the top of the draft. Then I remembered that I was thinking ahead to 2022. Oh, well. The Sabres should still get a useful player, to add to all of the other supposedly useful players they already have.

Corey Pronman just posted his new draft rankings in The Athletic. He's really high on Dylan Guenther. (RW from Edmonton of the WHL.) But this doesn't look like a draft with a true superstar at the top.

I had never heard that name before. Had to look it up to make sure you weren't inventing it. So, Buffalo fell from #1 to #13, then took a guy who played three years in the AHL before going back to Europe. No wonder you're still bitter about 2005.

He's still active, by the way. He has 21 points in 43 games this season for Poprad HK SKP in the Slovak Tipos Extraliga.

Kind of digging the Slovakian logos. They seem to be fond of horned animals over there.

I would love an HK Nitra jersey if it didn't have a dozen corporate logos all over it. Maybe I'll just buy a puck.

I tried to interest my wife in starting our travels overseas by living in Bratislava for a year or two, but that got shut down quick. Too bad, Slovakia is an underrated gem in Europe and it's cheap as hell to live there.

I'd like to visit Slovakia (and elsewhere in central/eastern Europe). We really loved our time in the Czech Republic, and as you said, it's cheap. You could eat schnitzel, goulash, or sausage with great beer every night!

The Penguins are going thru their annual tradition of tightening up and playing very well when Malkin is out of the line-up, making me think very uncomfortable thoughts. It helps that they're getting secondary scoring from guys who weren't even in the line-up a couple of weeks ago.

Has anybody seen much of the Florida Panthers this year? I know that they've been very good, and I was looking forward to watching them in the playoffs. I'm pretty gutted about Ekblad's injury. I've avoided replays and details; I just know that it's bad, and now Florida is without their best defenseman. Hornqvist is out. Even Barkov is missing games now. This team will never rise above obscurity.

we've got some players available...

...ok but for real, i couldn't wave goodbye to Ristolainen fast enough. Pre Covid this year (when the Sabres were actually no-kidding-kinda-decent) he had the best 10-game stretch of his career by a longshot. Eye test and all advanced measurements. People were talking like he'd "figured it out" ...

narrator: he hadn't.

I've watched a bit. They've been quite good. They're fast. Barkov's been really impressive. It's been nice to see Verhaege do so well down there. Sucks for Ekblad, and the team's chances this year.

As a Tampa fan, there's never been much of a rivalry. We've never been good at the same time, never met in the playoffs, etc. I wouldn't mind a good in state rival, but I damn sure don't want them knocking out my boys this summer.

Barkov is always in the top 3 or top 5 in players' polls. He must be the most anonymous great player in team sports.

Now that I'm a bandwagon Wild fan, I think the Panthers are the last remaining team that I've never cared about in their entire history. I would probably like them if they were ever on tv, but I never see them.
i couldn't wave goodbye to Ristolainen fast enough.
Well, that's just rude. I was shocked to learn that this is Risto's eighth season. I still lump him in with all of the kids. He's still young, but he's been there quite a while.

The new AHL arena for the Henderson (VGK) Silver Knights has a name and it's the Dollar Loan Center, though sadly not the Dollar Loan Center Center as it should be. (Other than RamsFanny, I think SLC Steve will probably be the only person to get that joke, but I don't even care.)

I'm sure they did their market research, but it doesn't seem like hockey fans are the most likely folks to patronize Dollar Loan Centers.

I know players go to Florida rather than fleeing but there are a lot of rangers fans all in on Barkov (one year before UFA) over Eichel.

Didn't watch live, but apparently on attempt 8 in the SO last night a Wild took a slapper that went over the crossbar that infuriated Karlsson, who then won the game on a similarly high slapper from in close and then stared down the Wild bench after he won the game.

I watched it live. The shootout was fun. They each went 2 for 3, so it kept on going. In rounds 4-7 the players tried their typical shootout moves and both goalies stoned all of them. So, in round 8, Ryan Hartman of the Wild skates straight in, no faking at all, and fairly close to the goaltender he just winds up and hammers a big slapshot. It missed everything. I do think the Sharks took offense to that kind of an attempt, so Karlsson went next and he did the exact same thing, but his beat the Wild goalie for the winner.

Not a huge fan of "unwritten rules", so hard to get too worked up about it. I happened to see the game highlights (watched that one and the Colorado game also this morning on NHL.tv) and Karlsson had a hell of a game though.

I love Karlsson. That play reminds me of Malkin taking a slap shot on a breakaway against the Flyers. I think this was more directed against Mike Richards, who had hit him with a late, dirty hit a few seconds earlier.

Malkin is such a fun player. He can be frustrating at times, but Pittsburgh is so lucky to have him.

Okay, got my absinthe poured, a stream of Oilers/Habs on the laptop. (The game is a disaster for the Oilers so far.) Hug a puck tonight, Swamp.
