Re: 2021 NCAA Tournament
Gonzaga is gonna curbstomp UCLA. That game could get really ugly. They would have beat Michigan by double digits they could beat UCLA by 30.

Re: 2021 NCAA Tournament
Gotta love it when the scrappy underdog has 11 titles. Happened to UK (well, only 8 titles) that year we were a 8/9 seed and went to finals in 2014.
And it unnerves me how much Cronin acts just like Pitino on the sideline.

Woof.
:D
MI had their chances down the stretch. Stuff they've hit most of the year. Props to the Bruins.

Yeah gave the kid a lecture on cinderella and UCLA basketball history in the car this am. He says they're still cinderella.
Re: 2021 NCAA Tournament
May be confirmation bias (and I haven't paid much attention to college hoops in years) but it seems like so many teams settle for low-percentage 3's in crunch time when a 2 or a foul from an inside shot would keep them alive. Is it a hero complex or is this actually coached?
Re: 2021 NCAA Tournament
Last night, dude from UCLA threw up an airball from the FT line and he was apparently embarrassed by it so told Cronin to protest to the refs about it and Cronin did, even though the guy wasn't close to him. Then the refs immediately called an offensive foul on Michigan at the other end that was blatantly a defensive foul.
Is that "good" coaching?

Re: 2021 NCAA Tournament
Yes. More coaches should try telling refs that their player was fouled.
Totally Kafkaesque
Re: 2021 NCAA Tournament
Unbelievable year for the PAC-12 women, too. Arizona vs. Stanford in the national championship final.

Re: 2021 NCAA Tournament
Bruins win, I win my pool. Zags win, I'm out. That simple.

This has been arguably the best half in the entire tournament.

I get it. Black and white on the same shirt is off-putting. I prefer the NBA grays.

I’d say the only mark against it was all the timeouts but even the play designs were money so 🤷♂️

Re: 2021 NCAA Tournament
As amazing as that last shot was, this was the play that really blew my mind...
Re: 2021 NCAA Tournament
What does nantz love more - Augusta or dramatically eulogizing the dashed dreams of 20 year old basketball players?
And to show how much basketball I watched this year, including not seeing Gonzaga before last night, I figured out just before halftime it was “Timme” (last name) and not “Timmy” (first name).

Re: 2021 NCAA Tournament
Baylor coming out fast again. Kenny Smith was right, Baylor went to Athletes-R-Us to get these guys.

If I'm a Gonzaga fan, I'm blaming Timme for shaving the rest of the beard again before the last game.

Would have been nice to see Bobby Knight still alive when a team completes an undefeated season. Other than that I had no dog in this.

Re: 2021 NCAA Tournament
Throughout the ‘20-‘21 NCAA season, teams were 98-1 that shot better than 55%, turned the ball over less than 10 times, and held their opponent to less than 7 three pointers. Until the other night when UCLA did all those things to Gonzaga. Now those teams are 98-2.
Yeah, Baylor’s really good, but if Baylor had to fend off UCLA the other night, no fucking way do they play like they did tonight v Gonzaga.

Re: 2021 NCAA Tournament
Bummer of a way to end the season for Gonzaga. I had never really watched Baylor play before, but wow....they've got some big hulking dudes that can play. Gonzaga looked scrawny compared to them. If the Zags play their "A" Game against Baylor's "A" game....I say Baylor wins 8 out of 10 times.
Not to discount anything Gonzaga did this season...they had a great season. Just ran into a buzzsaw at the end. And I do think that UCLA took a lot out of them, both physically and emotionally. They were so flat at the start of the game, and Baylor just ran them off the court.
The best part of the season for me though was being able to share it with my daughter as she turned into a basketball fan, something she never had any interest in before. That's a pretty cool thing.

Re: 2021 NCAA Tournament
Yeah, it's a bummer the final was never close. But I always like to see a program get their first (which would've happened no matter who won). And of course still have to stay up for One Shining Moment.DaveInSeattle wrote: ↑Mon Apr 05, 2021 10:53 pm Bummer of a way to end the season for Gonzaga. My daughters also really got into the tournament this year -- the women's side. It was really fun watching them cheer on Aari McDonald yesterday, for no other reason other than she kept making shot after shot on Friday, and then their disappointment when she just missed the final one that could have won it for Arizona. But I don't get them to sit down to watch many sports with me, so just seeing a little bit of an investment was nice.

Re: 2021 NCAA Tournament
So my main takeaway is that Drew timme cost them that game with his play in the first 5 minutes. chasing blocks and leaving his guy, missing rotations, and general sluggishness. He was a shell of himself. and then he did the mustache thing and the next time down he got hacked, which is what people should have done since round one, just Baylor has enough strength to make it real, I guess.
My gall is sufficiently mitigated. Thank you for your concern.
