This is the thing that really REALLY bothers me about all of this. These fuckers (all the massive clubs) created a "marketplace" that had no guard rails so that they could dominate domestically and compete in the CL. At any point, they could've worked out a way to avoid being $1B in debt (or whatever the respective figure) and they, obviously didn't do it.

Now, they are coming back to everyone with a woe is me, it's too hard, it's too expensive bullshit excuse for creating this bastardized, soulless league.

Fuck 'em is absolutely right. (You can, correctly, shit on the Americanization of anything, but at least those owners got together and figured out somewhat reasonable guard rails so that down market teams weren't completely run out of the game. YMMV but I would think a luxury tax would be getting down the path for the major European leagues.)

Fucking American billionaire sports franchise owners realize they are running an athletic venture that isn't guaranteed to print them enough money, then get clowned.

I agree with this. It was the equivalent of the first bus scene in “The Siege” when the blue paint exploded. They’re just figuring out what kind of response they are going to get so they can recalibrate. Six teams from England? They only get 4 in the UCL. That bloc didn’t hold and they’ll learn from it.

Would still love to see UEFA issue a 1 year ban on UCL participation for any team that signed up, just to send a message. (And a domestic league points deduction while we’re at it.).
