Re: NCAA Tournament thread - Sweet 16
Holy shit, that made me queasy. God. Just awful.
I saw an injury very similar to that in a high school soccer game. Kid was a few feet from me and he just stood there in shock holding his dangling leg in the air, screaming.
Ugggggh.

Totally Kafkaesque
Re: NCAA Tournament thread - Sweet 16
1) The acceleration of gravity compiles force exponentially. A couple of inches vertical leap can make a huge dif.degenerasian wrote:Doctor: How does a leg break just by landing on it, didn't seem like there was much force.
Theismann had LT pulling him down.
2) Landing on just the right spot of the foot, with the ankle at just the right angle, and the force is focused on the mid-leg rather than on the ankle joint.
3) I think there was a Duke Player leaning on him, in the air, and coming down with him (and I am not gonna look again to check; I could be wrong). Just a little extra force from the other player could make the crucial dif.
One in a million. Happens in skiing all the time, though. (Again, gravity being a cruel bitch.)

No, it was just him. He had jumped by Thornton who had shot (and made? I forgot.) a three. There was no contact and Ware landed out of bounds.howard wrote:3) I think there was a Duke Player leaning on him, in the air, and coming down with him (and I am not gonna look again to check; I could be wrong). I don't recall ever seeing that in a basketball game. I'm sure it's happened, but I can't recall one.

Thanks.
Hey, is Seth Curry playing this game?

To avoid seeing that nauseating replay again, ima gunna change channels. To The Walking Dead marathon on AMC.

Also (this will sound trivial) but basketball players wear shorts so an injury like this isn't hidden by pants or socks or anything.
Right in front of the Louisville bench too, that's just awful.

During the game will be ok but I'm definitely not watching halftime.howard wrote:To avoid seeing that nauseating replay again, ima gunna change channels. To The Walking Dead marathon on AMC.
I don't believe CBS will show it again but I'll find out by the reaction on twitter.
I'm switching over to golf.
edit: damn, golf is in a rain delay.
I'm switching over to curling!

Okay. Saw the replay (it's all over Twitter, hard to miss it). Anyway, that's correct. No contact, just terrible bad luck on the landing. And, yeah, the three was good.Shirley wrote:No, it was just him. He had jumped by Thornton who had shot (and made? I forgot.) a three. I've never seen that in a basketball game either. Countless blown out ankles but a Barbaro? Never.

After a brief cameo, Curry returns to his hiding place. He oughta take Sulamon with him (0-8 from the floor, half from the arc).

Woke up to "holy shit"s and "OH MY GOD!"s on my FB feed about that Kevin Ware injury. Reminds me of Sid Vicious. Same kinda force/perfect storm landing and injury.
But if you can watch the replay and avoid staring at the injury, look at the Louisville bench. All of them recoil in abject horror.

So . . . Ware's injury was caused by a heroin overdose?

Re: NCAA Tournament thread - Sweet 16
Louisville is just on another level right now. Not so much physically, but mentally. It probably helped that they didn't have to deal with Izzoball two days prior, but that's not worth 20 points, obviously.

Jeez, even the Louisville women are beating Baylor!

Re: NCAA Tournament thread - Sweet 16
This will be the hardest I've ever avoided anything on the internet in... damn, I have no idea how long.
I needed to get ready to go over to my parents' place at halftime so I jumped in the shower apparently right before this happened. I got out, heard Jim Nantz in solemn Masters voice with no crowd sound and dashed into my room. All I saw were crying faces and no direct mention (as I started counting Louisville players I thought that Ware had hit his head and been knocked unconscious or something) and so I jumped on the computer in my office and read the tweets. That was enough for me. I got sick just thinking about it.

Re: NCAA Tournament thread - Sweet 16
I was walking into the Flyers game as it happened. I saw the players reactions plus Pitino. Saw Ware laying on the sideline but didn't see the injury or a replay. Figured it was bad. Then the broadcast showed the Theissman tweet and was like holy shit.
Got home, googled it. Looked, covered my eyes. It's like his calf had a joint and could bend. WTF?
With Florida losing, my brackets are done. Far from a Pitino fan but I hope they win. Otherwise, lets go Wichita St.

I saw a .gif that was just the reaction of the Louisville bench (with Ware cropped out), and even that was too much for me.teeteebee wrote: Got home, googled it. Looked, covered my eyes. It's like his calf had a joint and could bend. WTF?
I can't believe those players were able to regroup and play like that for the 2nd half.
No worries

Re: NCAA Tournament thread - Sweet 16
I'm just getting back into town (and registering for this version of the swamp). That was just an insane 48 hours. You go from thinking it's all over deep into the Fri night game to playing your glorified trainers and reservists with a good 2 minutes left in the Elite 8 game.
Unreal.
With that version of McGary, they are extremely difficult to defend (as has been said a zillion times by now.) That's what's interesting and should be a little scary for opponents -- this team was a legit #1 in the rankings when they had virtually NOTHING going on in the post (Morgan, pre-injury, was a decent defender, but nothing like this version of McGary on offense.) And I know it was only for a cup of coffee, but my point is that they were up at that level.
[And for probably only the mega-homer fan, I was getting so pissed watching the Kansas game when the color guy had to say something like 15 times before the 12 min TO that Kansas wasn't SDSU or VCU and McGary was playing bigger guys now and it was going to be tough and blah and blah... STFU dude! No shit. He was still having an awesome game, sorry to fuck up one of your pre-game talking points douche. How about watch the game and call it as it happens. Fucking Brent Musberger school of bullshit "stuff the commentary into my talking points regardless" approach to broadcasting. Suck it.]
The other insane thing for those that have watched MI all year is Stauskus. That kid went on a run at the beginning of the season where he was shooting like this on a pretty regular basis. It was nuts. Then the grind of the B1G season happened and he got real human, real fast. Watching him go ham like that, it was like, where has this kid been for a month?
So very tempted to drive down to ATL on Saturday.
