Carl Nassib

Post by brian »

Is thankfully alive but is first NFL player ever to come out as gay. Las Vegas might be the center of the sports universe this year especially after As move here in October.

Not sure other than Sully if someone has gone from zero chance of a biopic one day to literally 100 percent.

Another detail is he’s donating $100K to The Trevor Project, an organization that seeks to prevent suicides for LGBT youth.

Once the NBA expands to 32 teams and adds Seattle and Vegas, Las Vegas will go from having zero teams to all four leagues in like 6 years. Atlanta did something similar when the Flames were founded, but obviously they didn’t last.
My avatar corresponds on my place in the Swamp posting list with the all-time Home Run list. Number 45 is Paul Konerko with 439.

Baseball is the likely failure if LV gets four teams. NHL, NBA and (obviously) NFL will be fine. MLB experience could be tough with 81 home games and 115F heat.

It would have to be indoor stadium, right?

Phoenix manages it pretty well. Went to a lot of games there, was usually more cold than anything, from the AC blasting

For sure but with 81 games played in the dead of summer mostly hard to see how opposing fans buying tickets gets it over the hump to filling enough seats. That’s what As are counting on if they move to LV. They’ve seen the same demographics I know. Vegas has “only” 2 million ppl and would be smallest city BY FAR in US with all 4 major teams (I’m assuming NBA expands here and Seattle by 2025, which is likely.)

That’s as many home dates as NHL, NBA and NFL combined (almost).

What are the odds other players come out now that he did it first? I figure it's gotta be at least 50/50, although maybe someone wouldn't want to do it right away and maybe be seen as a coward who needed someone else to go first.

I don't want to link the Tweet here because it's pornographic, but I really don't think Ernest Givens knows how Twitter works.

I hope one or two other guys do but sadly it might be awhile. I’m kinda hoping maybe this inspires a player in another sport as well.

I think it helps that he plays a "tough" position, that he's a rotational player/contributor and not a fringe roster guy, and his salary for this season is guaranteed, setting him up for life. Those last two parts give him enough security that there is lessened risk for him to come out, which some other players may not have.

I am hopeful that this leads to another player doing the same, as each one helps get us closer to the point where it's not a novelty. But, I am still suspicious of the NFL, particularly the team decision makers, limiting the number of people who feel like they can come out.

BTW, if you just showed me his video without sound or a label, I'd have sworn he was Gronk.

I would have thought more would have come out by now, since nobody seemed to care when that out kid was drafted a few years ago.
