Predators trade Ellis AND protect 5 defensemen, that's crazy.

That's a good team.

Ellis seems clearly still very good but I’d also worry that the team that knows him best would know when to get away from that contract.

Also nice to see the Rangers waste 2 of 11 expansion slots. Fun.

(Unless they trade Rooney and/or Hajek in a future deal.)

The Ellis threads were pretty good. Especially since he played club hockey and still plays beer league.

Calgary Hitman Luke Prokop could become the first openly gay player in the NHL

Awesome to see the support all over Twitter today from the Hitman, Flames and reporters everywhere.

More importantly, he can share with them what it's like to underperform in the playoffs with an aging, overpaid core and no hope of rebuilding for a half a decade.

I can make a very, very strong case that if Ryan Lindgren doesn't get hurt, GM Jeff Gorton isn't even considering jumping into the Goodrow bidding.

Well, no one would sign a deal with that long a term for $2M AAV. He'd have been better off doing a one or two year deal if those were the choices. He probably could have gotten a similar AAV to this Rangers deal on a two or three year deal on the open market, but I don't understand locking him up until his age 34 season.

Nah, this was almost the exact rumor (and Luszczyszyn's model) when they acquired him, they just beat out other poor decision making teams to get it done.

Speaking of things that look bad ... there's speculation or a rumor that the reason Anaheim protected Deslauriers is because we're going to offer our fucking first.

And that's literally all this is. Ownership thought the last week plus of the season against the Islanders and Washington (when Lindgren, Trouba and Kreider were all out) was too embarrassing from a physical standpoint to hang in and keep building an almost unfair core of young talent. In typical Rangers fashion, they're finding ways to make it expensive as well.

I’ve seen Goodrow in several fights. He’s willing and he sticks up for teammates, which no doubt appeals to Drury. The problem is that he isn’t good at fighting.

So, as chedda said, he’s not solving the Tom Wilson problem.

FWIW, Delauriers is a tough pug (but little else.)

There are two ways to solve the Tom Wilson problem:

1. Every eastern team dresses a 4th liner they know can beat his ass.

2. The NHL puts an end to his cheap shots no matter how many goals he has between cheap shots.

I perceive (maybe incorrectly) the Caps having big depth at the goalie position. They really like Samsonov (but I think Vanecek out played him all year and had less dumb time on the IR). Anderson, Copley, maybe Lundqvist, Fucale, Bjorklund (Medicine Hat unsigned), Gibson (Harvard unsigned) all have potential. And there are even more who have played for a very good Hershey Bears team. So maybe not the worst thing in the world. The decision to let Holtby go (which was not one anyone wanted to but it had to happen) seemed to be the right call.

Vanacek has potential. There were rumblings that Samsonov was inching towards getting dropped for just generally being a douche.

But his upside is probably higher than Vitek.
