I just think it's funny that the Big Ten, which was certainly leaning toward not playing at all due to the medical research on the pandemic, changed course and is now not just trying to feed at the trough, but to cram as much down their gullet as possible.

So now what? Well after last week's Coastal Carolina-BYU quicky set up, why not have Ohio State play Texas A&M? Both teams need each other to make the playoff.

Not on mute. You said something that led to what I posted (about the Big Ten's original decision), but wasn't explicitly the same. I also wanted to mock the Big Ten.A_B wrote: ↑Fri Dec 11, 2020 6:06 pmAm I on mute? Notre Dame football coach rips Rose Bowl
Kelly threatens to boycott the game if fans cannot attend.
I don’t think his tantrum will change anything, though, since Southern California currently has zero ICU bed availability and the state is trying to get more serious about controlling the virus.

They should definitely call his bluff. I'll bet the fifth place team would love to go. Also, ND has to win on Saturday to be guaranteed a spot anyway.

Lotta discussion about this before Kelly's bitching. Sounds possible that the playoffs may move the game away from LA anyway.

Ok Northwestern. Getting kinda deep into second half here.

Utah’s great frosh RB, Ty Jordan, PAC-12 offensive freshman of the year, died while home for Christmas. Nothing public yet about cause of death but rumor is he was shot. Very sad, as the kid sounds like he had a very bright future in front of him.

Struggled to find an NCAA football thread.
Kind of surprised there's no chatter here about the nuclear bomb that got set off last week. Hearing a lot of scenarios, particularly with what the B1G is going to do.
They probably need to gut the ACC if they want to compete with the new SEC. Big 12 needs to raid the AAC (or whatever that conference that has Cinci in it.)

The bigger story is the kid QB who left high school a year early to sell his likeness at Ohio State.

Re: NCAA Football 2019 --> Offseason --> 2020
I mean, it's all wrapped up together in many ways.
One of the many subplots is what happens to expanding the playoffs. Pretty disingenuous of the SEC to be negotiating an expansion, all while knowing what they were up to behind closed doors.
If I'm the rest of the P5's, no way in Hell do I expand at this point. Let the SEC eat their own.
Really feels like we're headed toward the SEC breaking off and doing their own thing at some point.

Re: NCAA Football 2019 --> Offseason --> 2020
Finally (didn't look too hard on Monday) found an article that detailed (at least a little bit) how this is possible:
I'm not sure what all is involved in meeting the standards needed to "graduate from high school early". Does that vary state to state, school to school? I guess you can be home-schooled and go to college so there must be some standard somewhere. Probably ripe to be exploited...Ewers is in a position academically where he could take one core English class online, graduate from high school early, and enroll and be eligible at Ohio State for the 2021 season.
I felt aswirl with warm secretions.
Re: NCAA Football 2019 --> Offseason --> 2020
It’s beyond common for kids these days to graduate a semester early to enroll in the winter semester so they can participate in spring practice.
In and of itself, graduating early from HS isn’t super uncommon. You see stories all the time of super smart kids that do it and start college at age 15 or whatever (remember Doogie Howser?)
But it seems like a really bad idea for such a physical sport as football.

I mean, a few years ago there was an outcry about the trend of elite middle-school football players getting held back a year so they would be stronger and competing against kids a year younger (generally).

Wait. He’s a five year high schooler. They painted him has some brilliant kid who’s going to finish HS early? He was born 3/5/03, which means he was an 18 year old junior.rass wrote: ↑Wed Aug 04, 2021 8:58 amFinally (didn't look too hard on Monday) found an article that detailed (at least a little bit) how this is possible:

Ohio State has created a program where athletes can opt in to a group licensing program to share profits from merchandise, starting with jerseys and getting into other things like bobbleheads, trading cards, and video games. If you've ever been in an airport and saw a flight from Columbus dump out its passengers, you understand how this is very important.

Just saw a third-year player referred to as a “pandemic redshirt freshman” (an accurate classification) so college football is gonna be weird for a awhile.

ACC, B1G 10 and Pac-12 announcing an alliance today.
Looks like it's mostly about governance and voting in the immediate. Possible scheduling stuff down the road, but they are locked into agreements going out as far as 10 years in some instances, so TV rights would be a thing to unravel for many years.
As I mentioned a couple of weeks ago, the idea of expanding to a 12 team football playoff is at a minimum going to be slow-rolled for at least the next 3 or 4 years. I mean, just out of spite and payback for Sankey operating in bad faith they shouldn't do anything to expand for at least 3 years. Fuck that guy.
