I would not have had your fortitude.
Almost immediately after her concern was voiced, the middle finger of my free left hand spontaneously extended itself for several seconds.

I also was relying on her for an update on what's going on with my mom following her emergency room trip and subsequent hospital stay this past weekend, so my discretion was warranted.

92 COVID deaths here in PV from the first six days of the month in a city of “only” about 250,000 people.

My fully vaccinated wife caught delta. Her symptoms have been mostly mild, thank god, and she was completely past a fever by the 4th day. We’re not certain how she caught it, though I’ve (also fully vaxxed) have been exposed several times at work lately. I’m back to wearing a mask full time in public, as it’s completely tearing through here now. Our hospitals are completely full and the ER is standing room only now.

Thanks for posting this, TB. It came in handy for me.

My wife is out of town and our neighbors invited me over last night for dinner and (many) drinks. Had a good time but was a bit disturbed when my friend said the only reason he got vaccinated was because his job required it (good for his employer!) He said he thought that the vaccines are too new, so he thinks we are all guinea pigs whose daughters might even become infertile due to an unproven vaccine. So, remembering this tweet, I forwarded it to him to rebut his statement. Of course, he has yet to comment back to me on it.

Fuck yes to all of this. Finally not only were these cunts called out on their educational backgrounds, but naming COVID variants after Republican politicians would be awesome.

I mean Trumps toadies on the court won’t have any problem dismantling democracy for the coming fascist revolution but even they realize vaccination is legitimate and necessary.

I mean is this some heartland public university bullshit? Because all of the schools around BU are requiring proof (mostly private of course) but surely IU isn't the only public school doing this.

ETA: So yeah, the south and midwest aren't really pushing it all in on requiring, but there are plenty of public schools that are doing so all over the country.

Sure, though I can't tell you how deflating this is, expected as it was, to the people who a year and a half ago or so had jobs that had nothing to do with COVID-19 but have been consumed with it since including spending much of this past winter and spring facilitating or supporting public vaccination efforts. After a small respite this summer (and even that was frustrating since vaccinations petering out when/how they did meant that this wasn't over) those people now know what the rest of their year is going to look like. At least that's my take after kissing one such person goodbye this morning before she left for work.

They're just tired. I know this is still pretty new, but if this is going to be the new normal then somewhere at the top they need to somehow rethink distribution.

Wonder if that's a temperature control issue or if that's an easy solve.

Who cares, stick me every week for all I care as long as I can keep living my life. Though I do hope the side effects aren't quite as nasty with the booster.

Speaking of, why is every one of these discussions centered around Pfizer? I haven't seen much about those of us who got Moderna and even less for the J&J after it was briefly pulled then reintroduced.

I'm so fucking tired of talking about this.

I read one report saying effectiveness of Moderna seems to decrease much slower than Pfizer. I think the consensus from the start was J&J was likely going to require a booster down the road. I'm also expecting one of the newest (or not yet discovered) variants will require an altered booster. I wouldn't be surprised if COVID vaccines end up like flu vaccines, and we have to get a different one every year. I have no evidence for that last tidbit, just saying it wouldn't surprise me.

The problem with this is that if he dies, it just fuels the "See! The vaccines are a hoax!" fire.
And his one problem is he didn’t go to Russia that night because he had extracurricular activities, and they froze to death.

The same day his state requested a bunch of mobile mortuaries from FEMA, he warned the state's restaurant industry that any of them caught implementing COVID protection protocols would have their liquor license revoked.

This is an example of bad faith governance.

The decoupling of accountability for actions on the right from those in power on the right is literally the rot that is ending this country.
