Re: The OFFICIAL The National Thread
Oldest has a playlist going of songs that she likes, largely made up of 70s smooth/yacht rock, and Oasis?
She doesn't like to listen to music while running, but during downtime, or while on the bus for sporting events, or sometimes in the car with me. Because she regularly tries to play it on the car stereo I thought she was patronizing me when she told me she included The System Only Dreams In Total Darkness on the list.
She regularly posts vlogs from track practice, but recently started working on another video, some sort of season-long compilation that she's trying to keep secret from her friends as she works on it. She showed me the WIP today and it's set to Day I Die ("ignore the lyrics, it has a good beat," she said). So maybe not patronizing me?
But maybe torturing her mom who generally isn't a fan of The National and who HATES Steely Dan, a band that features pretty prominently on the playlist.

I'm for all of this.

Re: The OFFICIAL The National Thread
She was super disappointed because technical difficulties prevented her from playing this at the end of season party this evening. I think she (and the exuberance of the rest of the kids) really bring out the inherent joy in the song.

I mean, some of the camera work was shaky. The actors didn't seem to know their lines. Action sequences underwhelmed. I dunno. 4/10.
(Kidding! Super cool.)

Twenty Long Years by Lord Huron sounds entirely too much like Pink Rabbits.

Re: The OFFICIAL The National Thread
I'm pretty sure they were an opener in the Barclays Center show era.
(Nope, year after when they did three nights in Prospect Park. We were there for Phosphorescent night and I was extremely sober in an extremely not sober crowd.)

Was at a coffee shop working and whatever that album was came on, and played in full. I don't need to hear Lord Huron anymore.

Re: The OFFICIAL The National Thread
Drowsily checking Twitter this morning and momentarily thought this was from a bot that spits out lyrics (avatars are similar enough when seen on a phone, happens here sometimes too) and I think it almost works, just need to tweak the front half a little

It's almost perfect. Maybe just switch journalists out for some other noun.

They're definitely recording new music, and hope to do another Homecoming in Cincinnati.

Re: The OFFICIAL The National Thread
Next album terrifies me. I don’t think I’ve had any band of decent career duration whose new stuff I haven’t eventually walked away from and they’re on some serious probation after the last one.
Re: The OFFICIAL The National Thread
I’m simply asking the question here, no cosmic shifts yet: Is High Violet their best album? It’s definitely their most them album but I’ve never equated that with best but I’ve been on a huge kick recently (along with The Winter of Mixed Drinks) and I’m less sure of placement than ever.

I really like the new Big Red Machine record. It seems to lose its way a little in the second half, but it's very good.

Re: The OFFICIAL The National Thread
Think of it as the best side project by the band member who has been responsible for their best side projects. Also, start with Phoenix. Not that the first two songs on the album aren't great too, but that one grabbed me first.

Re: The OFFICIAL The National Thread
First time I heard that in the car I thought to myself "this sounds nothing like Phoenix". I have an older car with a tiny little screen and the artist/song display is all squished together (and sometimes truncated).govmentchedda wrote: ↑Wed Sep 08, 2021 6:53 am Also, start with Phoenix. Re: The OFFICIAL The National Thread
I drive a 2013, and while it does have satellite radio, I can never tell who the artist is and what the name of the song is when new music comes on SiriusXMU. Stupid dot matrix display.rass wrote: ↑Wed Sep 08, 2021 6:59 amFirst time I heard that in the car I thought to myself "this sounds nothing like Phoenix". Re: The OFFICIAL The National Thread
I have a 2013, too! Though the screen is a bit more advanced, just really small.

Re: The OFFICIAL The National Thread
I love it, so do what you will with that info mister D.
Also, I feel like AB forgot to post a pic in this thread. We had a funny Swamp moment at Railbird. I did find it odd that record came out the day I was going to visit one of the biggest Reds fans I know.
