Heard good things about both Reservation Dogs and Only Murders. I'm 2 episodes behind on both Ted Lasso and Billions though, so new shows will have to wait.

Reservation Dogs -watched the first 2 episodes and have not gotten back to it. first episode was very good, less excited about the 2nd.
Only Murders---watched a few episodes and have not gotten back to it. Like it, but hulu has too many damn commercials. Makes me want to stop and watch something else.

If you read a summary of what the episodes are about, it would sound like a heavy drama, but it's not. Absolutely hilarious, great characters and just perfectly done.
I loved it. It's a bit slow and a lot weird, but it brings you into a community and world you don't see very often. My parents gave up after one episode, and I get it, not for everybody, but I found it beautiful and compelling. I also like how every episode focused on a different character, and slowly revealed a larger underlying story arc. The season ended perfectly, and I'm happy they announced a second season.

I am up to date on Murders Only in the Building, unless they unlocked another episode. It's weird and quirky, some funny moments. I love the dynamic between the 3 main characters. It verged on losing me around episode 3, but I think it got better, and I'm enjoying it.

Has anyone been watching the Ken Burns doc about Muhammed Ali? I watched about an hour of the first episode (#1 of 4) and it was pretty good. But haven't really heard any buzz about it.

Kept seeing Squid Game memes and links about it. Decided to give it a shot.

It's this really weird Korean Hunger Games-like variant. Lots of mystery, intrigue, and wtf going on with this one.

There's a Japanese series on Prime called Alice in Borderland that is quite good and am pretty sure is the same schtick as Squid Game (which I haven't watched yet).

See, I think if my kid started watching that, I'd let them and ask them to come to my mom or me with any questions. Seriously I know I would do the same thing as rass, but I very much truly think Big Mouth would lead to so much decreased anxiety among those going through puberty if it was part of our sex education curriculum.

My daughter asked to watch Squid Game a couple days ago. I was planning on watching it anyways, so I told her I'd screen it first. Get home last night and my son already watched the first episode, my wife allowed it. My son felt it was fine for my daughter to watch. I saw the first episode, and there is a substantial amount of violence. I talked to a work colleague about the show, and he was saying it gets much worse and it's in no way appropriate for a 12 yo. He doesn't have kids, so that knocks some value off his opinion. I'm letting my son watch it, if my daughter asks again, I'll let her. Honestly, I don't see her being interested, but "everyone" at school was talking about it!

Ha! Yeah, I actually thought about it when I first watched Big Mouth, but I really think you have to be out the other side and an adult to get it. If you were in the middle of going through puberty, the show would scare the fuck out of you. I do think it'd be great to understand everyone is going through a weird, uncomfortable, confusing time, but man, the show's portrayal ain't helping anyone in the middle of it.

That is great.

You could show college club spikeball with the All or Nothing production team and I would be in. Have watched everyone (Man City, Leeds, All Blacks, Michigan Football, the Cardinals, etc). It is like the Grand Tour. I don't care about the subject all that much but good story telling, camera work, and sound tracks make it feel like a good use of TV time.

It is interesting how extreme violence is more palatable for our kids than completely accurate depictions of what we all go through when we become teenagers.

My own parents generally would have preferred me watch sexual content over graphic violence when I was a kid, but you’re making a general statement there and not referring to Big Mouth specifically, yeah?

Just making a general observation. I assume 95% of parents would make the same decision, probably including myself. And I think we’re probably wrong. I truly think kids would feel more comfortable in their skin if they watched Big Mouth and understood those natural feelings that make them feel evil for having them at all are actually completely universal. No matter how vulgar it’s communicated. In an ideal world that’s more acceptable to watch than a show involving the graphic murders of poor people.

But yeah, extremely specific to Big Mouth the show. I would love it if we has a society would accept that show as part of sex ed curriculum. If someone say me down and made me watch it in the summer of 89, my anxiety in those years and after would have been greatly reduced.

I’m not. I love Big Mouth and understand your point but the show is way over the line of what I consider appropriate for her. I have no doubt on that decision.

Whether I should have made her stop watching Squid Game until I checked out an episode or two…. That one I can judge myself on.

Great twist ending.

Also, I realized that this TV series was basically Willy Wonka with lots of blood and gore.

Also, there's a fan theory that the old man and the main protagonist are father and son. Seems plausible.
