I have another idea. I think MLB games should now start at 5:30 or 6PM local time. Everyone who can afford to go to these games is now on WFH or some kind of flex schedule, so the old reason for a 7:00 or 7:30 start no longer exists. And if you are late because of traffic, who cares? The game is 4 hours long now.

5:30 is perfect because you don’t really have to pay attention until around 8:30 when it is in the 7th inning.

EDIT: i mean on the road. The one where you bat first.
Because either nothing happens or you blow the bench player who has to come out to bring in a pitcher?

Seems like an appropriate use for Albert Pujols. He can get back to the hotel and in bed at a time appropriate for his age.

the dodgers comeback win was a helluva thing. First time in that franchise's rather storied post-season history winning a game when down by 3+ in 8th inning or later.

Do you want the pitcher's spot coming up in the 3rd spot everytime and have to use a weaker pinch hitter? Unless you flip the entire lineup

It doesn’t seem any dumber than using a starter, or tweaking your lineup because the other team is using a starter. Haven’t we proven that lineups are dumb anyway? Dumb in every way except that you should minimize the number of times that an actual pitcher comes up.

I didn't go to bed until 11 and it was in the 7th I think. I can't stay up for this shit, and I'm the target audience - a person who will watch baseball even when his favorite team isn't playing. But If I can't make it to the end of nearly every game I do wonder why I bother with the first 2/3 of the game? And why would anyone less casual than me?

I haven't been watching because I'm not as big a baseball fan as you guys are and because staying up even to just 11PM on a weeknight is pushing it for me these days AND because I've been binging Succession this past week after finally deciding to dive in based on all of the excitement for season 3. On that last note, there is this cool drug called "cocane" (sp?) that seems like it's a lot of fun and would be an ideal pick me up if you're trying to make it through a late evening baseball game. Seems easy to get ahold of?

I have stopped watching games start to finish, regardless of time of day, and it has made me a lot more content with baseball. I'm happy to turn a game on and off as I please, and keep up with the day to day by reading boxscores. Kind of like when I was a kid and I wasn't allowed to stay up for night games anyway. That's why I proposed the 5:30 start! It's not convenient for anybody, but just about everyone will be able to watch some of the game, and it will end before us old people have to be in bed.

i just don't sleep in October. fk it.

although yeah, the games are long. is it really the pitching changes tho? or is it commercials/networks? who knows - i honestly don't even care, i'm gonna watch if they're 6 hrs long. baseball sucker that i am. beats hockey, i'm sure the Sabres are 0-3 by now anyways.

(however i will say that my daughter who is a jr in HS watches every game all the way (unless they go too much past midnight, then it's mlb on her phone - her sleep is definitely compromised but i'm quite proud she's such a diehard bb fan ha)

Is he really out of prison? That would mean only two 90s Yankees are still locked up for sex crimes.

(Chad Curtis had the cool flip-throws but he was always clearly a massive fucking asshole.)

I’m not even sure if AB is joking, but they should just go the whole nine yards. Halliburton. Phillip Morris. Exxon. Facebook. Theranos.

The Astros have been in the AL for 9 seasons, in the ALCS for 5 of them, and World Series three times. We should’ve switched leagues a long time ago!

At the Giants' stadium, they used to have an Enron advertising sign on part of the centerfield wall. They left it up for months after the Enron scandal. A guy I knew swore he was going to go out there and add some lettering to that sign saying, "Hit this sign, lose your 401-k!"

Only positive is you know MLB is dreading the backlash to the Atlanta nonsense and now their refusal to act will take center stage.

o right dammit i'd forgotten about that. shit.

so with all this press on Dusty Baker as The Great Healer nonsense (it's not really, i'm just being faux-cynical for its own sake) I might actually be rooting for the Astros here??

Just hoping for some game 6 Nelson Cruz ridiculous(ly awful) fielding to setup an all-time classic either way.

I'm so morally unclear on this one, dammit.

(to be fair, both of these teams are actually kinda quite fun. Trying to attach any sort of morality to a franchise/champion is fruitless. Jim Shithead Crane still owns that org, right? faaak.)

edit: fuck me i didn't actually read that tweet. what a piece of shit. "Hardworking Georgians" jesus fuc...

i hate people.

not you guys, obvs.

carry on. i'm just really unfocused today, clearly.
