NFL Week 8

Post by A_B »

Blah blah blah, Packers won.

Anyway, the athletic has an article about how funny Bill Belichick actually is. If you read the whole thing, and I don't recommend it, you will find exactly zero instances where he is being funny. I know it's a bunch of football players, but at no time did I say...yeah, that's a good one. I'm not even going to link it. Fuck it, fuck belichick and fuck you.

tough end of game for AJ Green last night. Guess he was thinking run? Not originally involved in play? Not great.

I did watch long enough to see this happen.

Fox replayed the hit, Aikman and Buck went "whoa!" and the Fox injury music kicked in and they went to commercial. Eventually an NFL PSA was shown detailing how advances in helmet technology have resulted in a sustained reduction in concussions over the past three seasons. Then immediately back to the field where the Packer player was on a cart and the Cardinal player was still being held motionless on the field. More piano and Buck said that they were going to take another break and promised to come back with better "pictures".

After the next break we got footage of Ward strapped down to a gurney with his facemask removed but he gave a thumbs up which was good enough for Buck to declare promise kept.

I was psyched enough for a good TNF game I went to the Canuckistani bar down the street to watch it, forgetting that it was on Amazon Prime and I could have watched from home. I ended up walking home during that injury break and didn't really miss much though I could have absolutely missed the fucking Packers and the horseshoe up that franchise's ass for the last three decades somehow pulling out another win.

You would think that, after two players were laid out on the field like that, they could have mentally prepared themselves for what they were going to see was not good. The Cardinal player was in classic "fists clenched/I've been concussed" position as soon as the play ended.

Great question, probably the Cardinal guy. Packer looked like a serious knee injury. Such an ugly play. Card was out before he hit the ground.

For a moment I was considering taking Detroit in Survivor for possibly the first time ever.

It was absolutely an atrocious call.

Still comes through for the Survivor League golden rule: NEVER EVER EVER take the consensus pick. 60% or so on the Bengals today.

I would love to blame the Bengals loss on that helmet to helmet call but they had plenty of other opportunities to not lose that game. At least I can go back to thinking Lou Anarumo is trash.

Don’t feel too bad, it’s kind of inevitable Mike White is throwing for over 400 and 3 TDs.

Bloodbath in my big pool - of 225 guys left, 141 took the Bengals.

I'm on the Chiefs tonight.

As for the game, Bengals left themselves vulnerable to the ref show, that's on them. Should never have been at that point, but I am disappointed to see a chance for Burrow to tie or win it taken away. That blew.

That said, something like 250 yards after initial contact for Jets offensive players. As shitty a display of tackling as I have seen in awhile, and I root for the Bengals, so there is a history to draw from. Just never got guys on the ground. That's where they lost it. Also, never adjusted the game plan to challenge the short stuff. Just let White throw underneath all game and then didn't tackle. Recipe for...(waves hands in general direction of northern new jersey)...

I found out around 2:45 pm EST yesterday that my Survivor pick in my big pool ($2500) of Kansas City didn't take. I sent an email pleading to the commissioner saying that would've been my pick and sent a screenshot of the Swamp survivor pick showing all the same as this big one. I'm still waiting to hear back. I'm going to kick myself if he doesn't allow it since over half had the Bengals.

Yesterday was perhaps the best possible outcome for the Bears. Offense looked its absolute best with Justin Fields playing (with almost more rushing yards than in the previous seven games total) while Matt Nagy was not allowed at the facility all week and watching the game from home. Team still lost, making Jimmy Garoppolo look remarkable in the process a week after rampant speculation that he was going to lose the starting gig. Great daily double.

A former Central Michigan QB beating a former Michigan State QB on national TV is gonna have to do it as my personal highlight of the NFL season.

Also, the two highest passing yard totals for a Cowboys QB making their first career start are:

Gary Hogeboom, 1984 - 343
Cooper Rush, 2021 - 325

Those are the only two former Central Michigan QBs to win a game in the NFL.

And of course the first Draft I'll be able to attend in person. If we draft last in that 5th round, I'll be fine with that.
