I'm tired just thinking about that.
One milkshake to bring all the boys to the yard and in the darkness bind them.
Re: CUBE LIFE! Office Etiquette
Zoom or otherwise, 9 meetings!!! Like WTF.

Re: CUBE LIFE! Office Etiquette
Its bananas. I'm a scrum-master for 2 teams, on two different projects now and my meeting load has exploded. By the end of the day I was babbling incoherently.
Re: CUBE LIFE! Office Etiquette
I have for the first time in a long time just stopped working for the day because someone has pissed me off so much.

We all agree that Rass could have put that one post in the Pittsburgh Penguins thread, Giff, but I don't think it should piss you off that much.Giff wrote: Fri Nov 19, 2021 12:04 pm I have for the first time in a long time just stopped working for the day because someone has pissed me off so much.

I also had nine Zoom/Teams/Webex meetings today. Which tied for the fewest meetings of any day this week. I had a new PR for meetings on Thursday - 18! Started at 7am and ended at 11 (not solid all the way through though).DaveInSeattle wrote: Fri Nov 19, 2021 10:29 amIts bananas. For some explanation, it was our user conference this week, so I had a lot of extra meetings on Wed and Thur (including the early and late ones for our EMEA and Asia customers).
Totally Kafkaesque

Re: CUBE LIFE! Office Etiquette
That's insane. How many were you running? I ran 5 of those 9, which is super tiring for me. I feel like I have to be 'on'...which is exhausting.Shirley wrote: Fri Nov 19, 2021 8:44 pmI also had nine Zoom/Teams/Webex meetings today. Which tied for the fewest meetings of any day this week. Thankfully only a few of them. Although there are some 1:1s in there too.

Re: CUBE LIFE! Office Etiquette
Fucking Millennials, man.
I'm having to spend 15 minutes watching this person I'm training write an email when they could just get this done with one 2-minute phone call and I've told them at least five times "if it were me, I'd just call and tell them X, Y, Z." Bing bang boom.

Def millennial behavior though.

41! I think the oldest is 1980.
Is it milenial behavior or introvert vs extrovert. I know introverts who are scared of speaking to anyone.
Or paranoid people wanting everything documented in email.

Re: CUBE LIFE! Office Etiquette
I've inherited a few teams and projects recently. Hopefully it's temporary. 11 direct reports. 4 unrelated large services. HigherEd and IT in particular is not dealing well with a highly competitive environment for staff that can live in a college town and work remotely. I usually have no less than 9 meetings a day. Nearly all are my meetings. Now they want many of us in the office to provide the on-campus experience to students. I spend my entire day with the door closed and in a meeting.DaveInSeattle wrote: Fri Nov 19, 2021 9:57 pmThat's insane. How many were you running? I ran 5 of those 9, which is super tiring for me. There's a senior Developer I work with who will take PTO days (he's been with the company forever, so he has plenty) and then spend the day working...and he does that solely to get out of going to meetings.
Re: CUBE LIFE! Office Etiquette
It's really fucking exhausting. Being "on" is brutal and I'm not sure how some people can do it all day.

Re: CUBE LIFE! Office Etiquette
I had one meeting today where we decided to cancel a meeting tomorrow. So is it like the meeting ever really happened?

At my former employer, we had meetings for the sole purpose of scheduling other meetings. It was like a Monty Python skit.brian wrote: Tue Nov 23, 2021 5:20 pm I had one meeting today where we decided to cancel a meeting tomorrow. So is it like the meeting ever really happened?
I don’t miss that place.

We've downgraded from Starbucks to Folgers. Purchasing is a bunch of nihilists, they don't care about anything. This aggression will not stand, man.

Re: CUBE LIFE! Office Etiquette
Seems like a cheap and easy way to show they care. Nihilists...
Making my own coffee every day (instead of drinking the lower than Folgers swill we used to have at work) might be one of the best things about WFH. And it's one I might not even think to list unless I was in the middle of drinking coffee (as I am now).

Fight nihilism with nihilism. Every hour or two brew a new pot to pour directly into the sink until the cost difference is neutralized.A_B wrote: Wed Dec 08, 2021 7:48 am We've downgraded from Starbucks to Folgers. Re: CUBE LIFE! Office Etiquette
I just bailed on a work breakfast because I was underdressed. Every single person had a suit on. I checked the invite and nothing said tie was required. So I left. Feel stupid.

Re: CUBE LIFE! Office Etiquette
That’s weird. Is it a suit-and-tie environment during non-covid times? I used to keep a tie at work just in case. Never needed it tho.A_B wrote: Wed Dec 15, 2021 8:38 am I just bailed on a work breakfast because I was underdressed. Every single person had a suit on. No I didn't eat at all.
It was a once a year event but I don't remember the previous one being jacket and tie only (2019 of course). I must have missed something in an email because everyone else got the memo!
