There was an initial shock and intrigue that people like this actually exist, but that wore off. While they are absolutely horrible people, I started to feel bad watching their lives as entertainment. Even if Joe Exotic (if that is his real name) got off on the fame and attention.brian wrote: ↑Wed Nov 17, 2021 2:47 pmRight? I couldn't get through it. I think it's because I had heard so much of the hype and I'm like what the fuck. I understand getting in on the bottom floor on a show like that and loving it, but it was fucking stupid and gross.

It's Wheel of Time day. Curious how Amazon adapted this. 3 eps out today. Full disclosure - I bogged down around book 8 or 9 and read the wiki to see how the damn thing finally ended.

Fuck Bill Simmons but the Alanis Morrisette doc on HBOMax is great. She looks better now with an extra 25 pounds or so then she did in the 90s IMO too

We finally caught up with the end of Ted Lasso. It was good (I laughed pretty hard at a bunch of things in the finale), but I have questions:
Coach Beard is the MVP of the show, in my opinion.

Arcane on Netflix is very good. It was developed with the game League of Legends but knowing and/or liking LoL has nothing to do with the show. Strongly recommend.

One thing I've really enjoyed about the Avergers world on DIsney+ is them rooting the stories in some experiences of the characters post-Endgame.
And same for origin stories. First 10 minutes of Hawkeye has been awesome for that.

Re: Television (no longer temporary)
Is anyone else watching 'Get Back' on Disney+? We watched the first episode last night, and it was really good!
Paul was definitely doing the hard work during those sessions....both in song writing and trying to be the 'grown up' and running things. I've seen some musicians on twitter (Jason Narducy from Superchunk/Bob Mould Band and AC Newman from New Pornographers) saying that The Beatles really needed a manager.
And I don't blame George for being pissed off and leaving. He'd give them some good ideas, play them some good songs, and Paul and John would be like 'oh yeah...thanks'.
I don't know if it was the lighting...or being in love...but Linda looked luminous. On the other hand....Yoko...what a weird presence. Just sitting there knitting or reading the paper.
Afterwards we were talking about how different it is now...bands take a couple of years between albums...and here they were trying to crank them out every 9 months or so. And they are under all this pressure to meet a self-imposed deadline, and then they just go home on Friday evening and say 'ok...see ya Monday!'

I watched a little bit with talkative friends unfortunately (make another joke about Ringo's drumming, how original) and the parts I did hear and see were fascinating, including George's friends, the different music they played from Dylan, old commercial jingles, songs they played in the 50s but never put on an album -- just watching them play and create is so cool. Also, I love hearing a bunch of random music and sounds, and then suddenly, a famous Beatle melody comes out of it. Agree with you on Harrison. He plays All Things Must Pass and they just shrug their shoulders, basically.DaveInSeattle wrote: ↑Sat Nov 27, 2021 11:21 am Is anyone else watching 'Get Back' on Disney+? 1. Ringo was super underrated.
2. Once Epstein (Brian) died the shitty deals he made really helped tear the group apart.

Other than Ringo, none of them come off particularly well. I’m about half way through. Good lord, Yoko is never more than an arms length away from Lennon at any point it seems.

Re: Television (no longer temporary)
I started the series expecting to find Paul much more annoying than I did. I found his energy infectious and his hair and beard glorious. And you're right on Yoko's proximity to John, but I'm firmly in the Yoko DIDN'T break them up (and has been unfairly shit on for 50+ years) camp and she stays pretty much out of the process (until George leaves, at least) and John seems to be fully engaged when he's there.
Biggest shock to me was that Michael Lindsay-Hogg is American!
I'm done with part 1, the one kid who was excited to watch with me got bored partway through that episode so I'm on my own for the rest, I think. Maybe I'll get her back on board for the rooftop.

On Yoko, it's not so much that she's meddling, it's that when bands are in the studio or in the process of working through stuff, it's just fucking bizarre to have her there like that. They all seem to put up with it, but you don't really want to have to "put up" with something or someone like that.
It's just a very strange dynamic for a group of guys that are already in a weird psyche at that point.
I have no idea how much of a role she played, if any, in breaking up the band. But just observing that whole dynamic... I don't see how she helped things?
On Ringo, you can go pretty deep down rabbit holes on YouTube with guys showing you what a "normal" drummer would do with certain Beatles songs and then they show you the twist Ringo put on the songs. I'm no expert, but it sure paints a picture of a guy with a very unique style and most of the videos throw around 'genius' a lot in describing his approach to the instrument.

As for Succession, I can’t decide if I’m rooting for Kendall (despite myself) or want to see everyone else lose and figure that can’t happen without him “winning”. No one has gotten a fraction of the shit he has taken and he’s no more deserving of that than anyone else.

It’s really hit it’s stride in the Last 3 episodes. Watching Colin run out of the room with the imaginary dead cat despite no longer being in Logan’s field of vision was so goddamned funny. Not sure who is better in this series, Jeremy Strong or Matthew McFadyen. Also have a thing for Sarah Snook. The Sybian wrote: ↑Wed Dec 01, 2021 4:54 pmI need to go back and watch this show, huh?
