Oldest is currently D1 or bust. She’s certainly got the drive, and maybe the skill? Sophomore spring track season is coming up, so I guess we’ll see where she is after that and start laying the groundwork to talk to schools (I sat through a Zoom seminar on NCAA eligibility - fun stuff).

Yeah... I miss watching her play soccer and would most days would take sitting at a soccer tournament over a track meet, but I'm thankful she chose XC/track.

At one of those horrendous all-day Middlesex meets I watched random U-12 soccer games rather than the meet. I think it was the day you took pictures of me sleeping.

My son is rowing for the school. The big find raiser is mulch sale. Some unbelievable number of bags. This thing is a full weekend production. Some how they screwed up a delivery so my son grabbed a crew to deliver the last 50.

Or maybe I am just posting this to say I am a very very good operator of fork lifts and similar vehicles. Set record times for loading up 27 foot box trucks with pallets of mulch.

the boy made it to NJ Meet of Champs..had run his fastest time to get there on saturday, and despite running his second fastest time in the 3200.. got smoked. started out (too) strong and ran out of gas. painful to watch.
seems the top miler in the country was in the building, that kid ran an 8:48

the boy was disappointed but a huge accomplishment getting there outright as a sophomore (only three i think in the meet for that race)
unfortunately the track coach is pushing him to quit soccer now (and not at end of club season as planned)..of course the club soccer coach has pushed for the same. He plans to follow
we did get to spend lots of time chatting with a college recruiter -- who offered to come to the boy's outdoor meets this spring and provide (us, can't talk to the boy yet i think) feedback.

so far the boy has the record as a freshman and sophomore (for the HS). pretty cool.

right now.. he is posting times that can get him to D1.. soccer.. still a very good player, and a starter.. spring will tell.

That's about the time most people start specializing, right? My nephew (16) is having the same conundrum (though not at the D1 level right now in either) between baseball and basketball, which both want you to be full time anymore.

You basically need to luck into off days and run times perfectly lining up, which didn't happen. I think the surprise comes more from my soccer-centric POV. I view track as a way to improve soccer performance. Plus my track athlete isn't competitive so I view it as an activity to keep him active and social. Plus I hate going to track meets, but again, if my kid was competitive I'd be more into it, but I still don't think I'd enjoy sitting around for 5 hours to watch him run for 10 minutes. Cross country meets are bearable, but you can usually only see them for a brief time at the start and finish of the races.

I was only an assistant coach for baseball, trying to remember if HC had any say on practice times. I know for soccer we could rank preferences for day and time.

five hours? heck no.. once you know the order of events.. you show up in time to get settled in to watch the race (or races) only time that doesn't work is when he runs the second and next to last events (unless meet is at home, in which no issue as the HS is only 10mins from home)

Kid says (and she knows her shit) that the second and third best HS boys times in the country this year were put down in the 3200 at that meet.

Seems the HS team plans to qualify for Penn relays in the 4x800 -- little flaco will be either the third or fourth leg... and they want him to push to qualify for the 3200.
guessing club soccer is absolutely taking a back seat. going to love that convo with the coach (doubt i'll see that $ again)

I was telling my sister last night about how much fun I had after having my wisdom teeth pulled. My parents didn't find me nearly as funny as I found myself. The oral surgeon had me leave in a wheelchair. I was popping wheelies and spinning in circles in the lobby. Whatever they gave me was fantastic.

The oldest daughter was just happy go lucky after having her wisdom teeth removed. Everything was the best. She is usually a happy kid, but it was turned up to 11. Talking to the nurses, the pharmacist, and anyone else we ran into on the way home.

The youngest after she had oral surgery was emotional. And she started crying and saying how much she loved Arianna Grande.

We got wisdom teeth out for both of our kids, but I still think it's mostly a scam. Just have a hard time thinking EVERYONE needs them out, which seems to be the case from parents I've spoken with.

ALso hate dentists in general due to a bad experience. I've probably told this before, but I starting going to the dentist my wife and her whole family used after I got married. After a couple of visits, he comes in with the xrays and shows me what the problem is, and strangely enough it was close after a family event at which a couple of people had said they recently had dental work done. I said, yeah, I think you did that for my wife's aunt and uncle (who are brother/sister) and he goes.."Yeah, it runs in the family. Very hereditary." Bitch, I married in. Never went back to that one, but I hope the two he got to pay financed a semester or two of his kids education.

I was in my 30s and married when I finally had my wisdom teeth removed. When I came to my senses, my wife and two cute young dental nurses were all grinning at me over stuff I'd been saying. I was petrified about what I might have said to them. Luckily, my wife told me later that I didn't embarrass myself in any ways that would have pissed off any of them.
