I'm not sure what my availability will be for next week. My daughter's basketball team in the playoffs, so it's all up in the air. If she loses Saturday, she is out, otherwise she will have practices and a game next week. Tuesday is out for sure.

We're back this week with a game scheduled for tomorrow and possibly another.

In the meantime, here's the USA Grand Final of the league I've been playing in. For reference...
  • These were the best two teams in Division 1 and were a combined 22-0 heading into this game
    We were in Division 3
    These questions are insanely hard
We played the team on the right in prelim rounds and lost by 1
You may see my team on YouTube shortly
Two of the guys on the left are pretty famous in the crossword community
The other guy on the left is now on The Chase

Holy shit, that was insane! I've never felt more stupid, I and know why Ryan didn't ask any of us to partner with him. It was so bad, in round 2, I paused to Google some of the hints and even when I had the correct word for all the clues, I still couldn't piece together half of them. I think I got 2 out of 6 with Google, and I never would have gotten the clues without help. I would have gotten the Wall, but never would have come up with the answer to the group of leftover. And for the missing vowels... do they just buzz in and hope to figure it out? Damn. I paused it when they buzzed to give myself some time.

Usually, yep. Once someone on your team buzzes anyone can answer, so if you've got 3 wordplay experts odds are someone will just immediately see it.

That's what I thought, then they didn't buzz in or buzzed slow on a couple. Unbelievably impressive.

Game 21 (Basses v RayJays) from last night. A pretty good game after the layoff. Chances were taken. Frustration was had. Hats were worn. And that's just one guy!

I've completely lost track (even though I have the emails) of when people can and can't play lately so I think I'm going to start sending out the dreaded Doodle polls for next week to see where we are. Everyone except the 2 teams that just played can expect an email shortly. Whoever claims the next game gets a couple of my favorite questions of the season.

5/6ths of the way to my predicted scenario of one person from every team replying. Congrats though to PDX and SC who both responded and have earned an automatic bye into the finals.

Just an FYI to say that I don't think we have any matches this week per people's schedules. I'll send out another poll asking about the next couple weeks. Watch for emails at some point. We will not be just handing a trophy to people from Canada and Florida without a fight.
