Didn’t see it he game, but I see Chelsea squeaked one out. They score 2 goals on 41 shots. 41!!!
Totally Kafkaesque
Re: All threads are temporary. This one's about soccer.
Do they seed the teams for the FA Cup tournament, or are the brackets set randomly? I alway wonder when you see two Premier sides, or two lower level teams playing each other early on.

57th minute in the Milan Derby (I won’t even attempt the Italian name for it) but this has everything you want in a serie a rivalry. 1-0 inter at the moment.

1-2 French Adam Levine and his meaty French forehead* have put AC up. What a match!

Re: All threads are temporary. This one's about soccer.
The Premier League sides only join for the 3rd round (and there are a number of preliminary rounds for the really low level teams). After that it's a random draw. No one is seeded which is why you got three all Premier League matchups today while Luton/Cambridge, QPR/Peterborough etc.

Soccer is almost always drawing ping pong balls. Any team can play any other team in a draw. Exception is Champions League, where you can’t play a team from your league until late rounds.

No seeds. Teams just enter at different stages.
And Boreham Wood won today! Non-league team into the last 16. But they next go to Everton.

Yeah it's pretty crazy. According to wikipedia. 637 non-league teams play in the preliminary rounds (entering at different stages) and only 32 of them make it to the FA Cup First Round where League One and League Two teams join in. Then they play two more rounds down to 20 where in the Third Round, Championship and Premier League teams join in.Baloney wrote: ↑Mon Feb 07, 2022 1:48 pmAnd West Ham were 2 minutes away from going out to 6th tier Kidderminster Harriersdegenerasian wrote: ↑Sun Feb 06, 2022 6:06 pm And Boreham Wood won today! If you go deep into the US Open Cup you can get the joy when a team that does not practice and sponsored by a liquor store near BWI Airport makes a run in that tournament. While the tournament is 103 teams proper, you really get another 150ish in a separate qualification knockout tournaments.degenerasian wrote: ↑Mon Feb 07, 2022 2:13 pmYeah it's pretty crazy. I always chuckle when I see The Villages has a team. Just makes me think of a bunch of retired guys out for a kickaround..but realize it is probably folks who have jobs in the community to let them keep chasing a soccer dream.

And it 50 years ago this weekend the mighty Hereford Utd, from the Southern League, beat Newcastle.
Unfortunately they don't have pitches like that anymore.

Speaking of lower-tier teams upsetting Premiership sides, the Leicester fans did not take kindly to losing to Nottingham...

Lol. Newcastle loses to lower-division teams in the FA Cup all the time.
And his one problem is he didn’t go to Russia that night because he had extracurricular activities, and they froze to death.

Yeah, I played for a team that made a tiny run in these early stages one year. It's REALLY difficult just to qualify on the amateur side of things. Those teams that make any kind of noise are pretty stacked with former D1 and semi-pro guys.wlu_lax6 wrote: ↑Mon Feb 07, 2022 2:34 pmIf you go deep into the US Open Cup you can get the joy when a team that does not practice and sponsored by a liquor store near BWI Airport makes a run in that tournament. PSG unis, (including jackets) look very basketball. I don't have any real issue with that, but the cuffs (?) look heavy. I suppose I just remember how heavy my workout clothes that had that thick hemming were.

So far it’s a match Mason Mount would love to forget.
Re: All threads are temporary. This one's about soccer.
Somehow left my CC at the bar/restaurant up the street last night and when I went up there to get it there was a dude in a full adidas Ukraine track suit trying to get one of the waiters to find the game on their weird satellite TV based listing of channels. From how he talked about the game (heavy, what I took to be, Eastern European accent) it sounded like he was a Chelsea fan.
I felt aswirl with warm secretions.

Contender for match of the season.
And you got to love seeing Chelsea lose anytime, but especially this week.
And there's something strangely satisfying about seeing a Manager outsmart himself. The penalty kick segment should be part of a coaching video on how to take penalties. But even though the Liverpool keeper didn't save a single one, it was joyous to see the "Penalty Specialist" go 0/11.

Guess Leeds' change to a high energy in-shape club based on Bielsa is closer to Marsch's philosophy. Some of the post-mortem on his lack of success was that the German Red Bulls were not built like the Austrian Red Bulls. He wanted to play the high pace/high energy/press/etc but they were not built for that and he could not get players for it (and could not find a philosophy that he liked and worked for his roster).Nonlinear FC wrote: ↑Mon Feb 28, 2022 4:52 pm Huh. Yeah, I just watched 15 minutes on breaking him down as a manager and, yeah,... He might be a good fit, but he's very locked in on high press, score off turnover soccer. If you don't have the legs, you're done. We'll see.wlu_lax6 wrote: ↑Mon Feb 28, 2022 5:46 pmGuess Leeds' change to a high energy in-shape club based on Bielsa is closer to Marsch's philosophy. Well the Amazon Leeds TV Show made it clear that this team is all about being in shape..but I think Bielsa was struggling with a team that was beat up, injured, and does not have the depth of other EPL teams.Nonlinear FC wrote: ↑Mon Feb 28, 2022 8:28 pmYeah, I just watched 15 minutes on breaking him down as a manager and, yeah,...
