Today is 10 years since I put on my current and final rank. It really sucks and is a bit embarrassing.

Getting in trouble on that deployment 4 years ago just nuked my chance to advance in rank. And before that, I got a suboptimal performance report on my way out the door from Germany.

I'm ready to be a civilian again.

1 October. I'll start terminal leave on 8 August. I could start terminal sooner, but I'd rather sell back some leave too get some extra $$$ on the way out.

Watching my FIL deteriorate due to end stage heart failure like this makes me thankful my Dad passed so suddenly (though I could've done without the "right in front of so many loved ones" part tbh). I just watched them take him from his house in a stretcher to a nursing home for five days and I can't imagine he makes it two. I'm thankful one of the last memories I'll have of him is joking with the EMS who took him. He's been pretty much incoherent and confused this last week so hearing him say "million bucks" to the EMS asking him how he feels made me smile pretty big. All my future Negro Modelos and Evan Williams Honey will be in honor of you, Ron Mack.

I should clarify. My mum had a heart attack at the first of the year, she has congestive heart failure and several other physical problems, but her mental faculties are fine. My father has cancer, walks with difficulty, can’t hear a fucking thing, and other physical issues, but perhaps more concerning/frustrating is dementia manifesting itself and progressing in some apparent ways.

On the positive side though, my decades-alcoholic dad no longer drinks, and my mom slipped me some edibles she hides from my father.

Sorry you guys are dealing with this. The aging process sucks. I'm trying to appreciate my parents and in-laws being in relatively good health, because I know that is apt to change without warning. FiL can't work for more than a couple minutes and his going blind, but his mind is pretty sharp. Really feel bad for them, as they still won't even go into a store, and won't go outside when it's cold. They haven't left the house in months. Just hope he isn't spending his last years so afraid of getting COVID he wastes his last chance to do a lot of things.

So sorry to hear this Giff/San Carlos.

My mom has had a lot of problems the last year or so, she's turning 88 in two days so things are expected, but she's had things happen that pile on top of the regular age problems (fell and hit her head, broke her elbow, which both kept her from being able to have her pacemaker adjusted so she's having heart problems) her partner was a PA and not someone that calls/texts much, so anytime I get a "call me" message my heart drops. Trying to get East as much as possible to spend time with her and have the kids get to know her better.

Sorry, guys.

I've got a bit of that going on myself. My 83yo mom is going through chemo right now for uterine cancer. She had surgery in December, which appears to have been successful, but they recommended chemo because it's the kind of cancer that often returns.

Luckily she is handling it pretty well, and the treatments should be done in time for her golf league.

Just slipped on my front steps (it’s been raining) and somehow caught myself with my left hand since my right hand was holding a bag of dog shit so I saved my face/head but scraped my knee across the front of one of the steps and ripped a hole in my ONE PAIR OF BLUE JEANS so now I’ll have to go to a mall or something because I need to see what the denim looks like before I buy them and are there still malls?
