They should just relegate the Cubs, Pirates, Reds, and Brewers, and just leave the division to the Cardinals.
And his one problem is he didn’t go to Russia that night because he had extracurricular activities, and they froze to death.

So all the currently unvaxxed players who play for the Yankees and Mets won't be able to play home games this year according to NYC mandates.

Judge still isn't vaccinated.

The modern day athlete and his version of self determination can pound freakin sand.

Schwarber to Philly, which may or may not mean Bryant is no longer an option.

That's the other team he was rumored to go to. There could very well be a silent suitor.

I assume he's being sharpie-ed in at DH? He was one of the first guys in my head a few weeks back when we were talking about HS kids who could play a passable major league LF.

Schwarber is pretty close to average in left field. Probably a little below average, but not horrid.

He embarrassed himself there in the playoffs in 2015, but he had come up as a catcher and was learning the position. He was average or a little above for a couple of years, though below again the past couple of years. He threw out a lot of runners in 2018, then they stopped challenging him.

And if you break it up by year (minimum 100 attempts) over the last 5 years, 4 different Schwarber seasons place in the bottom 30 out of 127 qualifiers. That's real bad even if its not "kid who shouldn't play little league because its kinda dangerous" bad.

(If you're wondering, the 5th season he didn't qualify because 2020 was shortened. If you make 2020 a 50 attempt minimum, you get 23 qualifiers. Schwarber is 3rd from the bottom.)

Well, he's certainly terrible by those metrics. Damn.

I was looking at Baseball Reference. They have him as 6 Total Zone Fielding Runs Above Average for 7 seasons in left field. Maybe I'm misreading that?

In all honesty, those Statcast figures are closer to what my eye-test would say. But I wonder, does that take into account throwing runners out and/or being good enough that runners don't try?

Did the Cubs even try to extend Rizzo and Bryant? Or was there too much bad blood, especially on Bryant's side, when they did the service time manipulation/shenanigans?

Apparently the Cubs offered Rizzo around $70 million for five years at the beginning of 2021. At the time, it was described as "laughingly disrespectful."

He just signed with the Yankees for $32 million for two years.

Colorado is an absolute fucking disaster. Trade Arenado (salary offset attached) then turn around and sign Bryant.

Yeah but Bryant is much younger than Arenado.

(Okay, he's only nine months younger. I can't figure it out either. But I'm happy for Kris.)

Right with you man. Sure I would’ve liked him to sign with my guys, but if not, at least go to a real team. One that’s actually trying, instead of those clowns.

I guess Bryant opted for the easy life. A lot of money and a very nice place to be. Easy(er) to hit lots of home runs. And very little pressure to actually win games.

The Arenado trade absolutely enraged their fan base. So, now they fired that GM and have to just look on that as a sunk cost. Moving forward with a new plan.

Schwarber, now Castellanos, both for ~$20M a year. No defense, and still not enough pitching. Guess my Phils are hoping to win a lot of 10-8 games.

I said the same thing earlier today when the rumors started to surface. “They’re going to win a lot of 17 run games.”

Potent lineup for sure.

They may have formed an opinion on his ability to remain an elite player considering his back issues, or they simply weren’t willing to give two player options on a three year deal. The Twinkies played Cashman like a fiddle.

I don't think this qualifies, since its a 3 year deal and Correa is really good, but I wonder if some players' markets were suppressed by the imminent end of the shift.
