So how do we rank Wales, Scotland and Ukraine? Ukraine best draw but a political nightmare?

Of the three possible Euro playoff teams, Ukraine is arguably the most scary (pre-war) so wouldn't hurt my feelings if they decided they could play and we gets Wales/Scotland winner.

Sadly, this is true. Kinda sucks when your two most talented players play the same position.

Remember Groups A and B crossover. If the US wins the group, they could get an easier 16s match. although, I wouldn't be that scared to play the Dutch either.

you might be in luck. England will want that game in primetime so probably the latter two.

Any risk they say fuck everyone and give Qatar the late match? Or is the late match not primetime for them?

The dates are set but the specific game times are negotiated/settled later. I don't think Fox will let them mess up a USA game on a national holiday, it's a dream for them.

the late match is 10pm local. 1pm, 4pm, 7pm, 10pm

i think Qatar wants to play all their games at 1pm in the heat.

None of Pot1 play Pot2 in any group in first match
In 6 of 8 groups Pot 1 plays Pot 4 first match
England drawn against former or current colonies (no, I don't think Ukraine will be playing unfortunately).

Qatar/Ecuador is locked in as the opening match, at 1PM local on 11/21. Other than that, games on a particular day can be moved around.

the fact that Lalas tried to call group B the group of death and then said there really wasn't a group of death when group C was right there on the screen is just par for his course. He's so fucking awful.

The African teams seem uniformly pretty bad. Senegal may be an exception.

Group C doesn’t seem too great to me. Mexico is probably the weakest squad in our lifetime, I don’t know anything about the Saudi team but I can’t imagine they are all that good. And Poland isn’t exactly striking fear beyond Lewandowki, and he will be 34.

Was just doing a quick look at the Saudi roster. Fun fact: They don't have one guy in an "outfield" position that is listed above 170 lbs, and a bunch of guys in the 130s and 140s.

That's nuts.

I watched African nations and qualifying the African teams are really bad, but they do bring it physicality. Depending on the leniency of the referee, they can hurt you.

I was chatting with my Dutch friend and congratulated him on his easy draw. He was a bit circumspect in his response. He said, "Senegal is better than you think", fwiw.

He also said that if Ukraine can assemble their squad properly (given the war, etc.), he thinks they are a much stronger team than either Scotland or Wales.

Poland hasn't been out of the group stage since 1986. That's a team no one will be afraid to play. Group C is pretty lame.

This is the first time Wales have even reached a finals draw since 1958, which probs means we'll lose to Scotland or Ukraine.

I would say that whoever makes it out of those three will feel really really good about the group they'll play in. They will all believe that they have nothing to fear with Iran or the USA and playing England in the last match will hopefully be a dead rubber.

I am not saying the US cannot come 2nd or win this group and they probably see Ukraine, Wales or Scotland as a winnable fixture.

Hopefully you'll be able to be part of this:

That's the big question for Ukraine, sure. And absolutely agree with that assessment. If if they get the squad assembled you also have to wonder about their headspace though.

Yeah, respectfully, I'll put our potential lineup up against every team in our group and with the possible exception of England, we have a more talented side.

So, folks in England and Wales can look down their nose, thanks very much, that's EXACTLY what we want from a team like Wales. Bring it.

Hell that's what we want from England before we prove were better. Watched a fair bit of sky sports on the day of the draw and was the definite vibe. More interested in Wales and Scotland to be honest but more or less dismissive of everyone in the group.

I agree on talent, we just need to put it all together. Wales plays well as a team and have a couple stars. Bale seems washed up at Real, but seems clutch for Wales. Ramsey is past his prime, but still quality. Scotland has some big names, don’t know how well they play together. Ukraine will be the world’s darling and playing with a ton of passion.
