Ralph Wilson passes

Post by BuffloSoldier »

Dead at 95. Member of the Foolish Club. Only owner that the Bills have ever known.

I'll start worrying about the future another day. Today's a day to keep things in perspective.

Rough month for NFL owners from Detroit. Two oldest owners in the NFL pass within three weeks of each other.

Do we take over top spot then?

One of two NFL owners who voted against Baltimore getting another team.

Old school. Man of honor.

Without him, would Buffalo have a NFL team?

I was going to make that joke. It looks like Jim Kelly isn't far behind.

Gotta say that on balance, he was a pretty crappy owner.

I think he only really wanted to win after Levy came on board and he realized that he could still make money while paying for talent.

A "man of honour" certainly in relation to the other NFL owners, but this is a guy who used to make vague threats about leaving Buffalo in order to nickel and dime the county and state for everything from the construction of the stadium to every single improvement that has been done since.

I realize that others have been a lot worse, but Wilson would always threaten to move the team in order to get concessions.

In recent years, he reverted back to being the cheap owner who refused to pay for talented people to run his team. The result has been apparent on the field for the past two decades,

So, no mourning from here. Partially because this is a man who had a long and by most accounts happy life, Also because despite what people try to remember, he was not the benevolent man who did the city of Buffalo a favour. The city and state helped to make him a VERY wealthy man.

And he was a freemason.

Logic would dictate Little Lord Danny, or whomever owned the Racistskins at the time. So, I'm gonna guess Irsay.

Art Rooney is the answer.

Jack Kent Cooke owned the Skins at the time and didn't care at all. His season ticket waiting list was 10 years long at that point. He wasn't going to lose any fans if Baltimore got a team. Irsay was too drunk to know what he was voting on.

Yeah thanks...couldn't figure that out. (Although apparently TB and Doc were somehow stumped)

So it's OK to joke about the holocaust but not Steeler's fans? I'm done with this place.
