It's a little act, but an important one. We had the celebration of learning for the youngest today. As we were leaving, we saw a teacher who is the mom of Karis, one of our oldest's best friends. She stopped us to tell us how they didn't realize it was a closed campus today, so her husband couldn't come have lunch with Karis which she has been counting down the days for since he's a principal at a school in another district and can never make it. She was absolutely devastated when she found out this morning and Harper was with her and stayed by her side being encouraging until class started. That's what it's all about to me. I'm so happy I'm raising some really empathetic and supportive kids.

Mazel Tov Degen!

Your sleeping days are done.

My son was born at at 31 weeks, and to cut a long story short, he's a healthy, intelligent 25 year old now.

Hang in there and practice diaper folding (and cooking). You're going to be a busy man!

Again, not my kid, but the young man I was trying to help through his football recruiting process has had an interesting 16 months. He committed as a walk-on to Michigan State in January 2021, but ended up switching to Ohio State due to the costs at MSU. He ended up traveling with the team to the Rose Bowl, but, shortly after the season ended, tOSU gave a scholarship to a high school senior... then another when they brought in USC's former kicker through the portal, making it three scholarship kickers on the roster in front of him. His on-field highlight was probably when he made a 38-yard FG in their spring game last month.

So, he entered the portal. He got some interest from both FBS and FCS schools. But, he messaged me this morning to ask for a little advice on how to tweet out that he was accepting a scholarship to transfer to an FCS program (he hasn't announced it yet). He seems really excited for the opportunity (in addition to the scholarship, their special teams coach expressed willingness to help him transfer to an FBS program in the future).

Oh, and my kids... Our older kid's last report card had no grade lower than a 98 for the third quarter and the younger kid just conquered tying his shoes. On the latter, my wife and I completely blew off teaching him (velcro and slip-ons-and a lack of patience), but he picked it up reasonably quickly and had a breakthrough yesterday.

Thanks!

It's been a hectic week, finally getting some rest myself.

Officially 27+2 weeks, born May 18 at 23:16 and 23:19

Shannon (885 grams, 1 lbs 15 oz)
Sophia (970 grams, 2lbs 2 oz)

Sophia is the healthier one, already off the ventilator. Shannon seems to be a day or two behind.

But all in all, the staff at the NICU are great and the babies are really cute (of course).

Wife is getting discharged tonight, I'll be at the hospital too busy to watch the Flames lose. I don't need anymore stress.

Also, kind of funny, a lot of co-workers ask me, "Are you taking parental leave?". And when I say no, they are shocked and almost outraged. And then I push them over the line by saying that raising kids is a women's job, why the heck would I take leave?

I will take 3 months parental leave when the babies come home, but that's none of their business.

My only advice to you is to be the most patient you have ever been during those three months.

And post pictures as soon as you can.
