What a stupid thing to suggest.*

I like apple tv+ but I cannot imagine a scenario where I will now watch a bunch of MLS. I think this is a waste of money, to be perfectly honest, but if you have it you can do it and maybe it ends up being beneficial for both parties.

I have had a hard time getting motivated to watch Friday Night Baseball on Apple+, so I get it. But they don't care if you watch if you pay.

Not sure if anyone else picked up but Hotstar (disney+'s brand in India) just paid an obscene amount of money for IPL. Something like the 2nd most for rights of any sport (behind the NFL).

Heading to Yankee Stadium tomorrow to watch NYCFC against New England. Curious to see the stadium laid out for soccer in person, it looks so damned weird on the seating chart. Anything I should know about these teams going in? Looked at the rosters, and it's really slim pickings, but I was really sad seeing Gedion Zelalem on one of the rosters (forgot which one). I was convinced he'd be where Pulisic is, but at Arsenal!!! Dude had incredible skills, and I was giddy when he declared for the US over the various other countries he was eligible for. Such a shame injuries derailed his career.

Would have been a good game last year, when they were the two best teams. But as seems to be typical, both are seeing their most valuable pieces get picked off. At least you get to see Bruce Arena in the flesh!

Taty Castellanos has been linked to a bunch of mid-table PL teams and Maxi Moralez is incredibly small.

Must have been impressed with the 7-0 result against Union. Also didn't he terminate his contract because his family hated DC?

So many MLS managers struggle to deal with the language barrier regardless of whether they are English or Spanish speakers. I think it’s brilliant to hire a guy that nobody will understand.

I'm going to chalk it up to the stadium, but what a boring game (despite seeing 6 goals, 3 pks and a red card). We had good (expensive) seats on the sideline right at midfield, but the field is so far away from the stands and so many empty seats everywhere you lose all the advantages of being in the stadium, other than seeing the whole field. NYCFC seemed to just bomb hopeful longballs all game and nothing came of them until after the red card when NE left the far side winger open. NYC was awarded 3 pks in the first half, first deserved but a completely unnecessary tackle after the attacker had a bad touch and was losing the ball, next two seemed like bad calls. Taty missed a penalty, scored a penalty and later scored a tap in on a rebound. One thing I can say for Taty, he sure knows how to milk a celebration after scoring garbage goals. Jumped the board, jumped up to high five all the fans behind the center field wall, took 3 minutes to come back then does the Usain Bolt archery poses 30 yards behind the midfield line while everyone else was ready to go. You scored a 6 yard empty net tap in an empty cavernous, get over yourself. We did get to see Arena get a yellow card, no idea what it was for. Zelalam and Altidore never came in. Omar Gonzalez was on the bench, too. Completely forgot about that guy.

The noticeable quality difference is why I've mostly stopped watching in favor of the PL. Kinda feels like being a G-League superfan when the NBA is right there to pick instead.

So David Ochoa goes to DC United. So United have Kempin (clear 3rd stringer), Hamid (Injured), Romo (Venezuelan National Teamer), and Ochoa. Guessing Hamid is going going gone (Again).

So an Orlando coach was "meeting a friend on another field" as Sac Republic was training (at a public park) in prep for the Open Cup.

Good day for Orlando--lift that US Open Cup

Bad Day for ATL
Josef Martinez suspended for detrimental conduct
and
USMNT and 5 stripe guy Miles Robinson arrested for "stealing" a $5 shot. Think there are 2 sides to this story as he had some things to say about racism.

Caleb Porter canned by the Crew. He was the hottest coach for a bunch of years. In line for USMNT leadership until the dreadful Olympics campaign. Wonder what is next. My hunch back to college coaching.

I wonder why Andre Blake isn’t in Europe somewhere. If big clubs are interested in Steffen and Turner then surely they must have been interested in someone who is better and more accomplished than them.

Ben Olsen to Houston? He was never seen as the revolutionary coach. More good to acceptable and decently priced. I have no clue what it really takes to be an MLS head coach but figured he would not be the name to pop up again without a stop as an assistant or USL.

Ah GM is a former Olsen assistant and played for DC under him.

He built a beast at Akron.

ETA - Who would you rather have, Olsen or Porter? Porter has at least 2 MLS cups, unless I'm misremembering.

First of all, that was a really good game last night, and it should be a great final. Definitely the league at its best.

Now, for the thing that MLS really does best which is fun rumors:

Interesting that Blake has a different sponsor brand on his goalie jersey than the rest of the team. Also LAFC's warmups are Rockstar Energy but the game uniforms are a different sponsor.

Bale has been on the bench. Guess he is recovering from an injury but they say he is 100%

Crepeau (LAFC’s goalie) and Burke (Philly’s striker) both got concussed on a collision. 2nd Extra Time period, tied at 2. Philly to Free Kick from about 25 yards out.
