So, one of you soccer guys tell me… how embarrassing was it for Everton to get drilled in a friendly, 4-nil, by Minnesota United?

Yeah, I supposed that might be the case. But, I also thought maybe they didn’t care, given it’s just a friendly?

I watched the game (which was excellent) and Germany came close to blocking her long kicks multiple times. It was something they were actively attacking as part of a game plan.

I was there more in a support capacity for the Mrs. as she is the Everton supporter, but it was a brutal game to watch from the Toffee perspective. There was absolutely nobody on Everton looking to create space whenever they got the ball so they kept turning it back over to Arsenal in their own half. Even if they didn’t care cause it’s preseason, not one player seemed to match the intensity of Arsenal in the first half. Lampard will take them down if he stays.

Do you think the TV show revenue was built into the plan to buy the team? I always worry about ownership of lower league teams being a few years and out when they are this high profile. The Barry Hearn interviews were fascinating.

Interesting question about TV revenue funding the plan to buy the team. I don't recall the sales price, but you'd think Reynolds and McIlhenny would have enough scratch to buy Wrexham without taking on any debt. Even if they didn't take on debt it really seems like a bad idea to go in and boost team value for resale purposes. On the other hand, it makes a ton of sense to make as much money as possible.

Haven't heard the Barry Hearn interviews about this, but he was always a very interesting guest on MiB.

“We should be thinking about Wrexham the way Man U [Manchester United] thinks about Man U — engage in club, communities. What a great way to do it,” McElhenney said.

Not sure I would have used that particular team for this quote.

Yeah, keep in mind, neither of them really know ANYTHING about the sport, let alone much about the culture of various English clubs.

I also think they are both "good guys" and their intention really does seem to be injecting some capital into both the team and by extension the town. I know RR isn't everyone's cup of tea, but I'm a mark and tend to follow him a bit on social... If all of that nice guy act is pure schtick, he's remarkably good at it.

TL:DR: I don't think these guys are fly by night on this deal.

I think they both are good guys. I did not mean to make it seem like this was a profit play but more a the math only works if we can have a TV show in the guarantee (i.e. limit he bleeding of cash for this vanity purchase/hobby/good time/whatever).

I am not sure if Hearn has commented on Wrexham but his interviews on Mib and other articles made it seem like owning a lower tier team a bad financial play.

Got it... I think where it might become interesting for them... Well, more challenging than interesting... Is if they start to make good on their promises and start rising through the league ladder. It's one thing to help bump a 6th division up to 5th, but once the entire league you are competing in is fully professional, the budget balloons pretty quickly. (That begins with their next promotion into the 4th division.)

Right...teams like FC United of Manchester, AFC Wimbledon, and Forrest Green Rovers get interesting press for a few years based on hype/unique story but you wonder if the structure of the game/ownership has a ceiling. They probably bump through a level they normally would not get, but big dreams they talk about...might be a bit much.

Just don't want to see this

Most of you probably already clocked this, but heavy rumors of Pulisic loan to ManU.

I don't give a shit about EPL rivalries and as such never bought in to the Yankees-parallel. I just want the kid on the field.

I'm not clicking any of those stories I see and am sticking fingers in my ears. LA LA LA LA LA!

I want Pulisic to stay at Chelsea and get some more run.

Even outside my Chelsea fandom, I'm not convinced at ALL that going to ManU would be a positive change for him. That team and organization is a clusterfuck. And despite that, they aren't short of talented players to compete with him for minutes. If he's gonna leave, he should go to Italy or back to Germany.

Not for nothing, Malik Tillman took the ball of a defender and had an assist on a tap in goal in today's CL elimination game against PSV. Rangers won 1-0 (3-2 on agg.) and the draw for the next round is... I think tomorrow.

Sands, who plays somewhat of a Tyler Adams role on that team also had a pretty good game. For my money, he's a better option than Acosta, but I think GGG wants Kellen around for a variety of reasons. (leadership being one.)

Lots of club goals from our #9s. Sargent with 3 in 2 games, Pefok with a couple, Gyassi...better not be under consideration.
