So last night I headed to the fancy sports and entertainment complex (think super high end gym, pool, field house, training center*). They have built a temporary box on the turf. So I got assigned men's open. Pretty high level. So I am calling the game and their is the fit older man standing on the outside of the box, just talking through the game of what the player should be doing. Well figure out that he is the former head coach of Navy (and a few other D1 men's teams).. But also realized that he was someone I watched growing up (Captain of the Baltimore Thunder).

Image

But the real crazy one was a guy wearing a Rochester Knighthawks Game Jersey and some Bucknell gear playing. A quick search last night made me realize that this was a guy who had a pretty solid career in the National Lacrosse League (and coaching the Iroquois National Team). The parallel to make would be like having Brooks Laich show up for the local men's league hockey in his Washington Capitals game jersey.

Ovi has some relationship on the hockey side (2 full rinks)
climbing gym
high end health club/spa
DC United trains there in cold weather
DC's pro rugby team trains there
Spike Mendelson restaurant
Indoor Batting Cages
Virtual Golf Simulator
Pool (with movable walls for water polo and distance changes to short versus olympic distance)
Water Park
The TC Williams (Remember the Titans) play there home games in the indoor field house).

Just got an email from David Simon (wire, treme, Homocide, etc)
1.) Uses an AOL email address.
2.) Apparently is a member of the same synagogue I am (still keep my membership to the Baltimore one growing up but don't go too often..more to honor my father and grandfather who was a founding member).
3.) He does not know when to use Bcc

And yes it was about a shooting in Baltimore near our synagogue while Hebrew school was going on (which would make sense as he has a daughter who would be in that age/close to bat mitzvah).

I never heard of this girl until today, but I’m told she is a big celebrity among the Gen Z kids. My daughter noted that she went to our local neighborhood elementary and middle schools along with Emma Chamberlain, so this is her brush, not mine.

Definitely not greatness. Surprised to see a guy I know from my town appearing in the NYTimes. Looks like he pled guilty to defrauding teacher pension funds for $12 million and cost his clients between $7-$10 Billion. I knew him from soccer coaching, I think he coached the boys team in my son’s age group.

The president of Iceland was at the Sigur Ros show I attended on Tuesday in Palo Alto. Jonsi noting as much before the end of the show is literally the first time I think I've ever heard him say anything other than "Takk" onstage during a show.

Got a great gig driving around the Executive Producer of NBC Golf for 10 days. This guy. Awesome guy. Loves talking golf.

Anyway, on the way back to hotel from the course today Gary Koch rode shotgun.

I was going to come here to say that. John Daly has/had issues, but talent certainly isn’t one of them.

I'm just saying he couldn't win a tennis match. I get how impossibly difficult it is to play golf at a high level, but you can be great while being in horrible shape, drinking and partying. Tennis isn't as forgiving.

Just had Feherty and Feinstein. Feherty got in the back seat behind me and didn’t have a lot of leg room. He goes, “What are you filming a rap video up there?” 😂

Talked some golf with Azinger yesterday while he was waiting for other people in his ride. Like THE nicest human I’ve possibly ever met.

Feinstein is apparently writing a book about Feherty and following him for a year which explains why they were in my backseat together. I said “What’d you do to get a book written about you?” He goes “Shhh…don’t tell anyone.”

This may be the coolest thing I’ve ever done.

The Lexus they gave me had to be back at 5:00 Sunday so I didn't drive Tommy back. He called me at home later to thank me and other nice things. That was cool.

My last ride back to the hotel from course Sunday night was Justin Leonard and Notah Begay. They're just like us.

Hanging out tonight in Dewey with a college teammate of mine. He owns a transportation company down here. He is telling me about his business and just casually drops that he has personally driven Biden (as he was running for president) and Michael Jordan for his participation at the White Marlin Open.

Awesome! I met him years ago in Toronto at a screening of "Female Trouble" and "Pink Flamingos" he spoke between the movies and I caught up to him in the lobby. Super nice guy, we chatted for a bit and I got him to autograph my odorama card from "Polyester"
