Can you blame them? So many classic Jeter moments over the decades have occurred against the 'Stros. Their rivalry with the Yankees, the dozens and dozens of battles between the teams defines the Jeter Era. They would be remiss not to commemorate all those classic plays Jeter executed on the hallowed turf of Enron Field.
They also embarrassed the Yankees by taking the series from them last night.
Jeter shoulda been an Astro anyway (fuck you, Phil Nevin!). There is the connection with Pettitte and Clemens though. The Astros are just the first of many teams to do that.
well this is gonna be someone's new signature - bronto
Tigers just got absolutely boned on an instant replay challenge. SS Romine caught the ball for a force at second base on a DP ball and lost the ball making the transition to throw to first. Runner at second was called safe. Ausmus called for a review and the replay center still somehow said it wasn't an out.
I can't find the MLB.tv thread but does anyone else's really just suck on Apple TV? Constantly freezing up and shit?

I thought maybe it could be my modem but I'm getting 25 mbps which by most accounts is pretty good.

Yeah, mine's been bad today. I think their servers are overwhelmed. Happened last year too. Will happen occasionally when there's a no-hitter or something happening. They should work it out soon.

Oh you know what? It could be because it's free the first week.

Dodger pitching held the Giants hitless for seven straight innings. Bats must've been tired from those eight runs in the first two innings. 8-4 opening day at Dodger Stadium result.
Who knows? Maybe, you were kidnapped, tied up, taken away and held for ransom.

A semi-serious question: Why shouldn't Oakland have to forfeit the game tonight? It was their groundscrew (and shitty stadium) that was the reason a game couldn't be played.

Then any stadium that doesn't have a retractable roof should forfeit rain outs. Seattle has one.
Mariners also would have had to forfeit some games in '94 when their shitty roof collapsed.
Same with the Vikings a few years ago, and the Expos when their shitty stadium started falling apart.

Oakland will be forfeiting their team to Santa Clara or somewhere in Silicon Valley in short order.
I foresee a day when all San Francisco Giants will be named Brandon.

I've been a Hamilton skeptic. At least this year, I doubt he can get on base enough to be a serious weapon. A .300 OBP isn't upper echelon even if you can steal at a 90% rate.
But this is one amazing video clip. Unless Jay has a weak arm -- and I didn't see this in the clip -- then Hamilton is even faster than I thought. And I imagine he would look even faster if I saw this play in person.

Stick, yes. At least if he's an adequate fielder. But to crack the top half of starting center-fielders I think he's going to have to get on base more than 30% of the time. As I recall, Hamilton has never walked much. If that continues, he's going to have a rough time doing this. At least in year one.
I'm assuming he's not much of an outfielder right now, as he's new to the position. But it could well be that he learns fast. With his tools, he could be above-average at some point.
Lots of potential, even if he never becomes more than a singles hitter. Is Vince Coleman with better defense a reasonable comp if things work out well for Hamilton?
