Re: OFFICIAL 2013/14 NHL Regular Season Thread
Two months ago, the Sharks were 13 points behind Anaheim in the Pacific division. After picking up two points tonight, they have tied the Ducks in points. (Ducks do have a game in hand, tho.)
(they had the Olympic break, too, so they closed the gap awfully fast.)

Interesting article about friendship between Rangers' backup goalie, Cam Talbot, and Kurt Russell's actor son, Wyatt Russell, dating back to their time together as goalies in... Alabama.

Yes! That was a nice gesture.degenerasian wrote:sancarlos:

Rush and I were at that game last night. Unfortunately, as they often do, the Sharks played down to the level of their opposition

What up dudes? figured i'd make an appearance. Habs beat Detroit 5-4 in a great game. I'm rooting for Detroit to knock out the Leafs from the playoffs but I can't cheer against Montreal.

Considering the Red Wings are basically the Grand Rapids Griffins in winged wheel jerseys now because of all their injuries I wouldn't be on it.TheHumanComa wrote:What up dudes? figured i'd make an appearance. Darren Helm has his first career hat trick in a game that could go a very long way toward making sure the Red Wings' postseason streak remains intact. 4-2 over Toronto, middle of the third.

Thanks, gonna make more time for the swamp. Been a busy work year, lots of people need their house painted in the winter apparently. But it's closing in on the playoffs and i needed people to talk about it with, so fuck work and being tired all the time.sancarlos wrote:Welcome back!

I'm in Denver for a quick weekend trip and I went to the Avalanche/Sharks matinee today. What a bummer for me - The Sharks put up 49 shots and played much of the game in front of the Avs' net, but lost 3-2. Arrgh!

Think the Sharks can do it this year? Been cheering for them ever since they came into the league but every time they do really well in regular season... you know the rest.

Bummer for me, too, since that win put the Avs ahead of the Hawks in the division.sancarlos wrote:I'm in Denver for a quick weekend trip and I went to the Avalanche/Sharks matinee today. Then again, if the Avs get home ice advantage for the first round of the playoffs, that's just one more chance for me to hop the California Zephyr to Denver and catch the Hawks.
And his one problem is he didn’t go to Russia that night because he had extracurricular activities, and they froze to death.

I attended the Sharks' 2-1 win over Los Angeles last night. Raucous crowd and great fun.

Montreal was down 3-0 within the first 6 minutes against Ottawa tonight. they tied it up by the end of the first and then went on to add 4 more goals before Ottawa responded. 7-4 final for Montreal. Crazy game. And it was in Ottawa but you couldn't tell, sounded like everyone was cheering for Montreal.
Sidenote - I was at the Montreal/Ottawa game where Montreal was losing 4-1 against Ottawa with five minutes left and then the habs scored 3 goals in the last 3 minutes and 22 seconds to tie it up and then win it in overtime, and we left before that happened! so i will never count the habs out ever again. at least against Ottawa

The fact that Chris Neil, Alex Burrows. Matt Cooke and Steve Ott are allowed to exist is all that is wrong with the NHL.

Have we reached the (literal!!!) point where Zach Rinaldo going into the boards and paralyzing himself would be a universal good since he will eventually ruin someone else's life with a cheapshot?

Yeah, Red Wings need to win two out of four in regulation to clinch. (Though who knows with the NHL any more. Is the tiebreaker still regulation wins when teams have the same amount of points?)devilfluff wrote:The Devils are so close... Fucking shootouts.

It's regulation and overtime wins. The ROW column. Detroit has only 32.brian wrote:Yeah, Red Wings need to win two out of four in regulation to clinch. (Though who knows with the NHL any more. Ah, OK. Well they need more than two wins then. Though that assumes NJ takes all 8 points still.degenerasian wrote:It's regulation and overtime wins. The ROW column. I'm more worried about clinching any playoff spot. 5 pts takes care of it.devilfluff wrote:Columbus is actually the bottom playoff team right now... 87 pts

Ouch.
This Flames team is really fun to watch despite their record. Any of the Flames teams from the last 3-4 years would have given up a late goal and lost in OT/SO against a team pushing that hard.

Re: OFFICIAL 2013/14 NHL Regular Season Thread
Canucks fire GM, Mike Gillis. Pretty sure Tortorella will soon be with him in the unemployment line.
The way Vancouver handled their goalie situation was crazy. They acquire Luongo, with his huge contract. Even name him captain for awhile. They apparently misunderstand that they are effectively married to him, so they bench him and turn to Corey Schneider. Then, they can't decide what to do and conduct a very public auction for Luongo. They didn't like the offers, so after alienating him, they turn back to him and trade Schneider. Then, after a poor season (but not Luongo's fault), they ask Florida if they are still interested and decide to ship Luongo out for essentially the same deal they could have gotten earlier. So, now they have neither Luongo or Schneider and will rely on effin' Eddie Lack.
No wonder they fired the GM.

Rumours (will go Canadian for this thread) in DC is that GM/GM will not be back next year. He is in the last year of his contract and everyone seems to think that he won't stay with the Caps. His name will show up for all of the jobs. Unclear if Oats will also go so the GM can bring his own guy in.

Yup it was insane. If you sign Luongo for life, you have to stick with him. The fact that Schneider got good should have been a blessing and they could trade him for the max value. But they wanted to trade Luongo instead who had no value.sancarlos wrote:Canucks fire GM, Mike Gillis. Pretty sure Tortorella will soon be with him in the unemployment line.

Re: OFFICIAL 2013/14 NHL Regular Season Thread
McPhee had three young goalies and had to trade one of them. He picked the wrong one. He sent Varlamov to Colorado and now that guy is stealing wins nightly, and might win the Vezina for the Avs! Meanwhile, Neuwirth is in Buffalo, Holtby appears to have lost his confidence and the Caps' main goalie of the moment, Halak, is an unrestricted free agent at seasons end.wlu_lax6 wrote:Rumours (will go Canadian for this thread) in DC is that GM/GM will not be back next year. You can kind of see why they might be disappointed with McPhee.
