There’s a freeze frame where you can argue he did or didn’t depending on which hand you focus on. Super weird.

Yeah, it's an entirely subjective thing. Half the umps would've rung him up, the other half would've cleared him for another pitch.

And L O L @Boone for DHing Matt Carpenter. I hope this opinion doesn't age well, but Carp's toast at the moment.

He should have broken his foot harder because this is brutal to watch. And he should have broken both of Donaldson’s feet. And Judge has to fucking bail out on that fly ball whether it’s in his zone or not.

Either that or use his voice to call off him off. The IF stretching into the OF and the OF not calling one another off has been abominable all year.

Ok sure Judge is both used to being the CF and not having an aggressive, rangy CF when he’s in RF, but the hierarchy is really clear and he obviously heard the call.

When your entire offense is trying to run into a HR, you probably shouldn't get caught stealing. This has 2006(?) versus Detroit vibes.

The 15-14 game in the ‘93 Series was also a Game 4 in Philly, and was 4-3 at the end of the first.

It wouldn’t have changed the result, obviously, but why wasn’t Carpenter pinch-run for by the guy who exists only to run for someone else once per game? I assume Boone had already just given up?

Good point. I figured Boone threw in the towel when he yanked Cole in the 6th at 96 pitches. So freakin stupid.

Like if for no other reason than the guy is 2 months from breaking his foot? And the Cole thing too. Just really bad work.

I just rewatched the Judge / Bader thing in R-CF with two outs in the second. Judge has got to realize he has arguably the range-iest CF in the sport playing next to him. The hell is he even doing in right-centerfield? Stupid, rookie mistake for a veteran like that.

I have no doubt part of it is conditioned; Hicks is one of the more passive CFs you’re going to see. No excuse for the play, but might explain part of it?

No matter what happens the rest of this postseason, Rob Thomson has been teaching a clinic on bullpen management. This is practically the same relief corps that Girardi had, and somehow this has become a strength. I was starting to think that there was a deal with Satan that the ‘08 bullpen was going to be untouchable, but then suck for the next 30 years.

Not to take anything away from Thomson, but much of playoff bullpen success is just based on the luck of guys getting healthy enough and pitching well for the few weeks of the playoffs. Guess it takes a good manager to go with the right guys though.
